Malabon (Elisa Esguerra Campus)

1.0 Problem and it s Background


I. Introduction
This study and as well as the aim is about the factors that causes stress and the impacts it has on
students’ performance and some possible management techniques. The main objectives were to ascertain or
identify the extent to which stress affects students’ academic success, health and general lifestyle, as well as to
inquire and bring to light measures to counteract the effects of existing stress in students.

A study suggested that student’s educational performance and achievement relies heavily on social status
of parents and guardians of them (Graetz; 1995).

Stress is primarily a physical response and is defined as a condition typically characterized by the symptoms
of mental and physical tension or strain, as depression or hypertension, which can result from a reaction to a
situation in which a person feels threatened or pressured or sometimes both. Stress is a central concept for
understanding both life and evolution. Learning and memory can be affected by stress.

Stress affecting students academically leads them to have bad performance in school work. Students
experience a lack of concentration. Stress in college students can affect the ability to concentrate, and there have
been studies conducted that prove that stress interferes with a student's ability to concentrate, Stress in students
is not something we can take likely. Ironically stress Improves concentration for a short term because when
students are little stressed up they then to focus to try to get the issue in question which stresses them away but
these concentrations doesn't last for long since they will have more school work or others assignments to do
which demand long-term concentrations rather than the short term.

II. General Objectives


The main aim of the research is to find the effects of stress in academic performances of students in
Arellano University-Malabon (Elisa Esguerra Campus).The study is focusing in students who are suffering
stress and how they can overcome it.

III. Statement of the Problem


Stress has become the number one reported that affects academic performance, as fellow students now
report being stressed out than ever. Some of the students are having felt so stressed they couldn’t get their
studies done on one or more occasions. This study aimed to determine how stress can affect the academic
performances of student. The researches sought answers to the following questions:

1. In your own opinion rate 1-5 how stress influences students academic life?
2. In your own view, should stress awareness be taught at the university?

IV. Significance of a Study


The outcome of a study will provide the basis for enhancing the general positive approach to students
life; thereby ensuring academic success. The results of the study will then be beneficial to the following
persons and institutions:
To the student, this study will help them to be aware on effect of stress in their academic
performances and how to deal with it.
To the parents, for them to be aware on what their child experiencing because on their
situation. This will help their child to reduce the stress they are experiencing.
To the teacher, for them to be aware about the situation of their students. It will help them to
give their students an appropriate advice and also to have knowledge on how to handle or to treat
them based on their experience.
To the community, they will have an understanding about the situation of a stress students.
Most important is to give enough understanding and awareness on their situation.
To future researcher, this study will benefit them to have some information and facts. This is
also may use as reference or a basis.

V. Scope of Limitation
This research is only limited to students who losing their academic achievements due to effects of
stress, the researchers will conduct a interview of a total of 10 students in different strands ; 2 from ABM, 2
from STEM, 2 from HUMSS, 2 from GAS, and 2 from TECHVOC.

VI. Definition of Terms


Stress- difficulty that causes worry or emotional tensions and produces strain on the physical body.

Ascertain- to find out or learn with certainty.

Strain- a group of presumed common ancestry with clear-cut physiological but usually not
morphological distinctions.

Counteract- to make a ineffective,restrain or neutralize the usually ill effects of by means of an opposite
force,action, or influence.

Attrition- the act of rubbing together

Threatened- having an uncertain chance of continued survival.

Ironically- used to denote a paradoxical,unexpected,or coincidental situations.

2.0 Methodology
I. Research Design
The study will be using qualitative research that will comprise the evaluation of the implementation of
the stress free life in students.

II. Research Locale


The researcher will conduct the study in Arellano University-Malabon (Elisa Esguerra Campus) Gen.
Luna Esguerra St. Brgy Bayan-Bayanan,Malabon City.

III. Population and Sampling


The researchers will interview selected respondents in every strand, 2 from ABM, 2 from STEM, 2
from HUMSS, 2 from GAS, and 2 from TECHVOC for students in Arellano University-Malabon (Elisa
Esguerra Campus).

IV. Result
The results of this study prove that in Arellano University Elisa Esguerra Campus students are suffering
in stress 9 out of 10 students that we interview all of them commonly says that the reason of their stress is the
overload of their “paperworks” the students turns out being frustrated that being the cause of the stress to
students.
V. Discussion
In all, the data were collected from the students who were studying in Arellano University Regarding
four main factors of which were: Relationship, Academic, Environmental and personal factors. Each had sub
factors that that caused stress and base on the results, working with new people was the highest factor in both
groups of people who answered the questionnaire Relationship as source of stress. With regards to academic
issues, class load was the highest. Future worry under environmental factors was the main cause of stress to
students and financial difficulty came up under personal factors that cause stress. The results show that stress
affects the overall school activities of students as well as their social well-being.

VI. Conclusion
The section of the study consist of the examination of outcomes according to the researchers’ findings.
The researcher has arrived with these following findings: The respondents are stress with the following
projects/assignment that AU have. Based on the data that we gathered through interview almost all of the
students are being unsatisfied with their study because of work overload because of their project/assignment.
This study show that many students are stress.
