COURSE LEARNING OUTCOMES

At the end of the course, the student is expected to:
1. Use Stata and R for data processing and management
2. Perform statistical analyses on biomedical and public health data using Stata and R

GRADING SCHEME
The students’ final grades will be computed as follows:
Criteria Percentage
Midterm examination 32.5%
Final examination 32.5%
Problem Sets 15%
Laboratory Exercises 20%
100%

The following scale will be used in converting the final score to a final numerical grade:
Final percentage grade Final numerical grade 70 – 74 2.25
95 – 100 1.00 65 – 69 2.50
90 – 94 1.25 60 – 64 2.75
85 – 89 1.50 55 – 59 3.00
80 – 84 1.75 50 – 54 4.00
75 – 79 2.00 <50 5.00

COURSE POLICIES AND GUIDELINES

1. This course requires the use of softwares (Stata and R). Students may either use the computers in the DEBS
computer laboratory or they may bring their own laptops.
2. There will be two exams. The coverage of each exam will cover approximately half of the course. Make-up
examination is given only to a student who missed to take an examination for valid reasons, which are:
a. Sickness, including those of immediate family members
b. Death of family members
3. A student who missed an examination due to sickness will need a medical certificate from the UPM Health Service
and submit it to the Course Coordinator not later than two weeks from the time the student reports back to class.
4. Answers to laboratory exercises and problem sets should be submitted through the Biostat 211 Google Classroom.
Students should work on them individually. Submission of laboratory exercises or problem sets during or after the
discussion of suggested answers will incur a grade of zero in said requirement.
5. Attendance is strongly recommended, but not required. If a student misses at least 20% of class sessions, he/she
will be forced to drop the course.
6. Students are expected to observe intellectual honesty at all times. Any form of intellectual dishonesty will be dealt
with according to the existing University rules.
