CHAPTER I

INTRODUCTION

Background of the Study

Food plays an important role in our daily life and wellbeing. Food is full of properties

that we perceive with our senses of smell, touch, sight and taste according to Science Learning

Hub (2011).

Food choices might be based on a great variety of factors. There are several factors

influencing food choice such as age, nutritional needs,time of the day,knowledge,money,likes

and dislikes,environment,special occasion,allergy/intolerance,food provenance according to

Livestock and Meat Commission (2015).

According to the study of Medibank (2015), a private health insurer. The first thing that

influence the food choice of the people are moods and emotions but this factor is involved only

on people with the age ranging from 55 – 64 years old. The second thing that affects the food

choice of the people is the price, it also stated that as the age and income of the people increase,

this factor becomes less important. The last factor that affects the food choice of the people is the

nutritional value that they get in a food and the influence of this factor relatively increases as the

age increases.

BACKGROUND OF THE STUDY

The students mostly overlook some of the factors that affects their food choice so they

can’t identify the factor that they need to consider in choosing their food.
Hence, this research is undertaken to find out the factors that affect the food choice of the

students so that they would know what factor/s they should consider in choosing their food.

Significance of the Study

The following will benefit from the results of the study:

Students. The students can identify what is the factor that really affects their food choice.

Parents. The parents can encourage their child on what factor does their child need to

consider in choosing their food.

Teachers. This research will be used to encourage students on what factor does the

students need to consider in choosing their food.

Future Researchers. This will serve as a basic foundation for future researchers for a

further development of knowledge about this study.

Statement of the Problem

The main process of the study is to find out the preference in choosing between school

lunch and packed lunch in terms of the student’s budget of Grade 11 ABM Students in Saint

Francis of Assisi College (S.Y 2019 – 2020).

This research aims to answer the following questions:

1. What factor mostly affect the food choice of the students?

2. What are the factors affecting the food choice of the students?

3. Why this factor/s affect the food choice of the students?

Those that are involved in the input phase will be the respondents that will take part in

answering the survey. The input will be students specifying the factors that affect their food

choice by answering series of questions. The process will be the actual administering of survey

and follow up interview. The output will consist of determining and analyzing the factors that

influence the food choice of Grade 11 ABM students.

Scope and Delimitation


INCLUDE THE NAME OF EACH SECTION, THE DEPARTMENT, STRAND,

NUMBER OF STUDENTS IN EACH CLASS.

This study only covers those students who are in grade 11 level that takes Accountancy

and Business Management strand of Saint Francis of Assisi College for school year 2019 – 2020.
