WELCOME TO ALL

LEtGO of Stigma respectfully acknowledges the Traditional Custodians on whose land we gather,
create, and learn. We pay our respects to the people of the Kulin Nations and to all Aboriginal and
Torres Straight Islanders in attendance as well as elders past, present, and emerging. We recognise
that sovereignty was never ceded, and today we especially respect those whose mental health has
been negatively affected as a result.

All of those working on or supporting LEtGO of Stigma have either lived experience or supported
someone with lived experience of mental illness. We respect how people want to define their own
experience, such as person or disability first language. We are aiming to make this a low-trigger
event, and no personal triggering stories will be shared, but we acknowledge that triggers are hard
to define and have a Quiet Space that people can use if they need to calm down. It is also okay to
come and go from the performance as needed.

This is created and supported by people in marginalised communities. Racism, sexism, homophobia,
transphobia and ableism is not tolerated.

WHAT YOU CAN EXPECT FROM THIS RELAXED
PERFORMANCE

- This performance is a relaxed space where comforting behaviours, such stimming, pacing, rocking,
humming and making noise, are all catered for. If you are having any issues with any other
participants as a result please go into the Quiet Space where the facilitator will help you out

- As this is held in a gallery, lighting will be consistent but artificial

- No lights will be dimmed throughout the performance

- People can come and go as they like during the performance. As no tickets have been issued,
tickets will not need to be rechecked to make it more comfortable for people to take space as they
need it.

- A facilitated Quiet Space is onsite, where you can come and go as you please. No questions will be
asked, and a range of materials are there for you to use if you like or you can just use it as a quiet
space

Equipment in the Quiet Space includes:

- Rubik’s cubes - Colouring

- Various fidget toys - Plushies

- Playdoh - Puzzles

- Where’s Wally books - Animal books

And more. You are also welcome to bring in your own, provided they are not loud or fragrant.

This performance is a safe space for those with mental illnesses or neurodivergencies. Triggers are
being kept to a minimum, but if you do find yourself triggered please feel free to use the Quiet
Space. Swearing may happen though as Lego hurts.

Videography and photography will be done at this event. All photos will go onto the Facebook event
page before further distribution, so please comment if you see your photo and wish for it to be
deleted. There will be a designated space where video will attempt to not be taken. Both are
required for Guinness to accept our record attempt.

GETTING TO THE VENUE

The Dax Centre is 30 Royal Parade, Parkville.

For an accessible tram route, the number 19 comes from Flinders/Elizabeth St in the CBD.

For parking on campus please visit about.unimelb.edu.au/campus-services-and-facilities/transport-

and-parking/parking-on-campus

Other paid and unpaid parking is available nearby, but it is recommended getting there slightly early

5
ACCESSIBILITY

WHEELCHAIR ACCESSIBILITY

Both front and side entrances are wheelchair accessible. There is an indoor ramp inside to get to the
gallery.

BATHROOMS

Accessible bathrooms are available.

Not all disabilities are visible. Respect those who are using the accessible bathrooms despite not
using mobility aids, as there are many other reasons someone may need to use the accessible
bathroom.

Please use the bathroom that you are most comfortable using and corresponds with your gender
identity.

AUSLAN INTERPRETER FOR DEAF/HARD OF HEARING PARTICIPANTS

Our Auslan Interpreter for the day is Kirri Dangerfield from The Auslan Interpreter

SAFETY PRECAUTIONS FOR BLIND/VISUAL DISABILITIES PARTICIPANTS

The Lego track will have door draught stoppers so that people don’t accidentally walk on the Lego.
These will be soft in case you accidentally do hit them, but should be felt by a cane. In addition the
Lego will also be on tarps that are taped to the floor.
