3. EVERYTIME THERE IS SKIN THERE IS SKIN

Performance development on sound poetry, moving space and

light dynamics, from a current research on Erotism and Death,
based on the literary works of Georges Bataille and Gertrude
Stein.
This research questions states of intimacy or remote memory,
elastic tension and slow terror, through games of intensity on
light and sound and through depth acknowledge between
audience and moving bodies.

Created and performed by Catarina Miranda with the support of

K.I.M. and TanzFabrik during the Berlin Post School for Physical
Theatre and Dance 2010.

PERFORMANCE AND
4.
GAMES OF POWER

LE SOIRÉE
Le Soirée, consisted in an unique
durational performance about games of
power, directed by Alfredo Martins and
Catarina Miranda, presented at Lawine
Festival.
The audience was invited to enter the
living room of T2 (a private house)
where 6 residents were prepared to
entertain the guests with performances,
concerts, screenings, guided tours to
the building and private places, party
mood, meals and the possibility to sleep
until the next morning.
There was a set of rules framing the
development o the event: there was a
bell in the centre of the room, which
could be rang in order to leave the living
room, to be entertained, or to meet a
private space of the house.
At a certain point, the audience would
almost forget that they were having a
controlled party, dinner, concert.
This event started at 6pm and ran until Le Soirée _ Performance
10am of the next day. Lawine Festival _ Berlin 2009

PIED DE COQ _ Pedras dʼÁgua Festival/ Lisbon 2007

PIED DE COQ

This performance, developed by eight artists and directed by Catarina Miranda, was presented in the Lisbonʼs Workers Association, normally a
Barberʼs Shop, and integrated the Pedras dʼÁgua Festival.
About Games of Control and Entertainment, the event intended to exceed the sensibility of senses in a set which gathered sound poetry
performance, while a meal was being prepared and offered.
During the emotional and claustrophobic happening, where people were invited to sit in specific places, sing, eat or talk in public, there were
some Characters developing only one simple action (counting money, playing cards), becoming invisible axis in their inherent silence towards
the excess of information.

5. PLEASE CARRY ME TO THE DOOR!

Performance Cycle related to choreographic

scores, researching on Partitions of Actions as
process of creation towards body and space
development.
Studying Choreography in its different layers of
chaos existence and inner dynamics, this cycle
refers to Omniscient Performance, where the
individual is “building the space in real time” in
relation with others.
Inherent to all Scores are the changing of the
spaceʼs variables and concepts of slow
contemplation, perception, and interest preservation.

6. GENTILEZA

Gentileza is an Art Sound and Performance Project

developed since 2005, by Catarina Miranda and
Sara Pereira.
Currently based in Berlin, we are developing “Biting
Song” about Erotism, Death and Otherness.
This project has been presented since 2009 at Knot
Festival/ Berlin, AMIW/ Coimbra Pt, Hormonado
Festival/ Bilbao, Altesfinanzamt/ Berlin and Lawine
Festival/ Porto.

As a process of creation, the artists develop

concrete sound scapes and holocaustic ambiences
of sorrow and poetry, which becomes primarily
materialized through sound performance and
installation, video pieces, drawings and visual
poetry.
This research conciliates the need of intervention at
the level of changing perception and the
dramaturgical conception about the “space

between” states of physical or emotional change,
suggesting in the overall, experiences of otherness.

Biting Song

“Catarina and Sara shared a recurrent dream, during

childhood, referring to a dark abstract place with a
spinning shape in the centre, massive and white or
luminous and immaterial. This landscape contained in
itself a deep low pain as a slow form of terror,
sometimes sharp and acid. There was a continuous
distant milky sound that could become incisive and
near."
