JEANNE LEE'S TAKE A BREATH IS THE INSPIRATION FOR THIS PIECE: ITS ARTLESSNESS AND DEPTH OF MEANING IN
EXPRESSING THE BASIC TRUTHS OF LIFE AND DEATH WERE IDEAL FOR AN EXPERIMENT IN FRAGMENTING AND
RECONSTRUCTING SOUND AND MEANING.
THE FIRST LEVEL OF FRAGMENTATION WAS THE TRANSLATION OF THE TEXT FROM THE ORIGINAL AMERICAN ENGLISH INTO
FRENCH, GERMAN AND ITALIAN, THUS AUGMENTING THE PHONETIC VARIABLES.
THE SECOND LEVEL WAS THE UNEVEN CUTTING OF THE WORDS AND SENTENCES OF BOTH THE ORIGINAL AND THE
TRANSLATIONS.
THE APEX OF THE COMPOSING PROCESS WAS THE CREATION OF GRAPHIC SIGNS USED AS MUSICAL SYMBOLS: EACH
SYMBOL REPRESENTED THE PHONETIC VALUE FOR THE
PERFORMING VOICE.
THUS FOUR TRACKS, EACH IN A DIFFERENT LANGUAGE, WERE RECORDED BY THE PERFORMER IN FRONT OF A DIGITAL
CAMERA USING THE CAMERA'S MIKE; THEN THE IMAGE/SOUND TRACKS WERE COMPUTER EDITED INTO A COHERENT WHOLE.
THE PURPOSE OF THIS EXPERIMENT IS TO UNDERLINE THE MEANING AND FUNCTION OF MUSIC AS GIVING VALUE AND
COHESIVENESS TO DIFFERENCES CREATING CHAOS, PERHAPS, OUT OF ORDER AND LIFE OUT OF CHAOS.

Breath, childhood, the universality of life: all meanings that characterise the inspiring text become
attractors and invisible threads between et and actors.
Take A Breath is born from a text and yields to music, video, dance, acting, symbol, as they are
called into being, the function of coordinating and correlating feelings and textual meanings. The
subject matter is developed on different communication levels by a continuous and emotional
enjoyment.

In the flow of exchanges, placements, paths, alternations, roles, somehow the way of gaming is perceived
and at the same time a path that leads to the natural construction of a network of connections, a human and
phenomenal network.
In the game, through the fun and combining experience transverse and subliminal messages intervene,
creators and advocates of the growth of the spirit of personal research and of the critical sense; of a greater
awareness of the Human Being. Expressed in positive.
Man 2.0
That is, the conviction, the will to continue the journey in the real world, aiming for a renewal, a reconstruction
or rather to an ethical and social reaffirmation, anthroposophic and cultural aspects of our human figure.
Use past history and witnesses firmly in the present, relying on it freely and giving power to the imagination, one
seed after another to the future.
The cinema room | the theater of the French Institute of Naples has been redesigned following a specific
goal: making it a musical and visual instrument, reconstructing it according to a criterion halfway between the
craftsmanship of a liar and the analytical-scientific approach of an engineer.
10 rows of chairs in front of the stage for a total of 250 seats, wired one after the other and made sensitive by
contact thanks to physical sensing sensors;
2 high resolution and wide-angle webcam capable of recording the information pertaining to only one place
used in the room and reproducing that place in an image pixel on the movie screen, exactly where the
place, in the virtual matrix of 250 pixels in which has been subdivided the screen, is located.
This logic entails the necessary filling of all seats to be able to read and see the whole room, with its viewers, on
the screen.
The instrument, the XoFono, sounds and is heard thanks to a 6 + 1 surround system that envelops the
audience / artist and involves it in the show he made…
In the spirit of the event, Man 2.0 becomes possible if we are able to share and aggregate, since it is
impossible to achieve the goal or approximate it.
It was indisputable and due a tribute to the French Institute that hosted the installation/event: for this reason
the fil rouge that echoed the great French traditions was Claude Debussy, composer and pianist, genius and
poet in music, among others great representatives of the French school.
Debussy had been fascinated by a gamelan orchestra during the Universal Exhibition in Paris in 1889 and this
curiosity had influenced some of his works…
Of the gamelan, which is a rather complex structure of Indonesian origin, a pentaphonic scale has been used,
the sléndro; distributing the notes that make up her on about 250 seats, through a study of the intersections
and overlaps of the sounds between them, so, even in the case of clusters, they did not have to produce
unwanted effects.

The project is focused on the educational aspect through the representation of the principle of individual
freedom in relation to the values of human rights and duties contained in the Universal Declaration of Human
Rights. The performance that we present, wants to highlight through sounds and body, just the symbolic
crossing that by the purity of the birth brings us to adolescence and then to adulthood with a heavy load and
especially confused about what we are, what we do and where we are going.
The performance embodies the birth and growth toward the age of reason.
During this "age of reason", today, ordinary people, influenced by so much information, by economic pressure,
cultural confusion and from the objective fears consequence of a troubled period of history, complex and
often fraught with negativity, manifest more fragility and less confidence in their ability to create value, to
reach important objectives and to fully express all their potential; in this context, social barriers, the use of
indiscriminate and uncontrolled power of those who possess it; the arrogance, greed and presumption of
those individuals concentrated in the centers of economic management, political and social, combined with
occult forces and cohesive, constitutes with fear, a dramatic stop to the flight into the future in which every
man or woman has right. This condition is like an opium of the mind, a rope that holds our body and prevents
us from taking actions, an invisible prison. But the freedom of the soul, the conscience, the ideals, the self-
emancipation, the dreams, the desires, is unassailable.
Untouchable. The voice of the heart can not be gagged nor can remain silent but will touch one by one
million of voices; The Songlines [cit. B. Chatwin] become the battle's cry of struggle and victory to reaffirm the
centrality of man and his right to dignity and respect for life.

In his open performative dimension, Ruminanze enacts a series of aesthetic processes that open spaces of
unexpected interaction between the artists, based on shared in temporarily assets, or simply built on the
meeting that occurs by chance, determined from living the same place and the same time in a transitory
manner.
Here, the performance is not and is not just site-specific: it should rather through a set of context-specific
practices, geared to a context that is one pluriverse space, where converge in an unpredictable way the
resonances of the place, the voices, echoes of artists.
It is in this stream of bodies, sounds and movements that builds the experience of Ruminanze, generated by an
encounter that is both material and imaginary, amplified by ambiguity, by imponderability and by the power
of the sound’s experience.

Le attività laboratoriali svolte con gli studenti di Video Music sono state improntate sulla realizzazione di un
progetto immersivo che prevede, presso i sotterranei dell’Accademia, quattro diverse installazioni audiovisuali
e interattive che rappresentino, nella logica di un percorso museale, lo spirito e gli avvenimenti del luogo
nell’ambito sociale, storico e culturale attraverso una sintesi narrativa e comunicativa con un focus sul suono
messo in relazione al segno. Il suono diventa anello di congiunzione e fil rouge fra le epoche [dal XIV sec. ad
oggi] e il vissuto dei sotterranei collegato ai diversi scenari percettivi.
In the early 1980's, I was totally involved in a personal search for the qualities and potentialities of the human
voice: her expressive power, magical-evocative power, her spontaneous and consequent therapeutic
effects.
The text, from which the composition was inspired, was translated, in addition to its original slang, in three other
languages and manipulated, decomposed, fragmented into language cells in such a way as to obtain for
each of the scriptures a matrix of phonemes become a musical score.
This experience has been integrated and reworked within this intermodal happening,
paying particular attention to the fact that some of the content characterizing the starting text, breathing,
childhood, universality of life, got an attracting pole
and invisible connection wire.

THE LEGEND OF THE FOUR BELLS
The story is told in an illuminated manuscript of the twelfth found in the dungeons of a Franciscan monastery
Ordo Minorum.
The performance / installation was performed with young people from Ginestra and with the contribution of
older people, historical memory and irreplaceable role in the creation narrative and representative, and had
as its dominant center of reflection the earth, the air, the wind, the ' water represented by the bell tower of the
town center, the heart, of aggregation and symbol of spiritual strength and peace.
