A Filipina 24 years old, Marjorie Lizada was an OFW domestic helper in

Kuwait who has suffered abuse from her employer. She was started working in
Kuwait in October 2016. The case was reported and aired on GMA network
February 26, 2018. During the first few months of her work, she was started to
abuse by her employer and she had told her relatives in the Philippines of her
situation there. At one time, her employers allegedly forcibly removed her
toenails. The abuse was not only physical but also sexual. Juliet Magtanan, her
cousin told that ''Te, gusto ko nang umalis kasi hinipuan ako ng anak pa ng amo
ko'’ according to Marjorie. Juliet added that her cousin’s employer has also
threatened to kill her and her employer had sold her to other families twice
already. Juliet said that Marjorie's mother is very worried about her that she could
no longer eat and work properly. The report said Marjorie's family, who wants her
home, had repeatedly sought assistance from the Overseas Workers Welfare
Administration (OWWA) to no avail. Meanwhile, OWWA administrator Hans Leo
Cacdac said they are already coordinating with their welfare officer in Kuwait
to rescue Marjorie.

Later on, Marjorie was rescued and finally reunited with her family in Taguig
on Thursday, March 8, 2018. She considers herself lucky as she was able to come
home alive after what happened to her. According to her, her first employer
would only feed her once a day. She was also punched in different parts of her
body and, one time, her employer's child shoved her to a toiler bowl. She added
that she was also sold to a new employer who treated her no better. Marjorie
was rescued by Philippine labor personnel last week after 24 Oras aired the
appeal of her family.

Marjorie met several other OFWs who had the same tragic experience as her
while staying at the Philippine Overseas Labor Office (POLO) in Kuwait to wait for
her repatriation. She said that some of these OFWs asked her to contact their
families in the Philippines once she gets home to update them on their condition.

Marjorie said she is still planning to work abroad despite her bad experience in
Kuwait. According to Lita, Marjorie’s mother, if her daughter would insist on
working abroad, she hopes it would not be in the Middle East.

In the other hand, OWWA said that Marjorie will receive financial and
livelihood assistance from the government. The OWWA administrator Hans Leo
Cacdac said that they can also give her a job or employment assistance if she
wants to work here in our country because it is better and she needs to stay here.
