Activity 1.

Concept Formation :Give your concept of sustainability on the given image

1. The first image shows a venn diagram, about how environmental, social and economic factors
contribute altogether to accomplish sustainability.
2. This image show a set of rocks stacked up together. To relate it to the concept of sustainability,
we must consider that the rocks are upright due to proper balance. With this I can say that the
concept of sustainability being tackled is balance in all aspects. Sustainability is the capacity to
endure in a relatively on-going way across various domains of life. It can be said that in order to
attain global sustainability we must first acquire balance in all aspects of society that contributes
to sustainability.

Analysis:

Answer the following questions briefly.

1. Differentiate stability from sustainability based from the picture given in activity 1.

 Stability is the condition of being stable or in equilibrium, and thus resistant to change or
disturbances brought up by external factors while sustainability is the ability to sustain
something or to provide the needs for surviving for a long period of time

2. What are risks perceived in the sustainability of the following aspect:

a. Ecology – endangerment of species, extinction, ever hunting or over harvesting

b. Economy – stock market crisis, inflation, economy recession , poverty

c. Social – unemployment, hunger, food insecurity, over population

3. For each statement below, mark YES or NO which ties in best with your understanding.

Yes No
1. I never waste water. /
2. I recycle as much as I can. /
3. Where possible, I choose to cycle or walk when I‘m going somewhere, instead /
of travelling by motor vehicle.
4. I often do things which are not good for my health. /
5. I pick up rubbish when I see it out in the countryside or in public places. /
6. I don‘t think about whether things I do might harm the natural environment. /
7. I often purchase second-hand goods over the internet or in a shop. /
8. I do things to reduce waste (e.g., throwing away less food and not wasting /
paper)
9. I treat everyone with the same respect, even if they have another cultural /
background than mine.
10. I watch news programs or read newspaper articles to do with the economy. /
ASSESSMENT: RESOURCES: SUSTAINABLE OR UNSUSTAINABLE

A. DIRECTIONS: Reflect on the pictures below and identify whether the following is Sustainable or
Unsustainable. After you have decided, write (S) if the picture is Sustainable and (US) if it is
Unsustainable.

B. Respond to the following questions.

1. Cite policies of intergovernmental organizations that address problems on economic, environmental

and social? 1 policy on each area.

Environmental- Biosafety Information Network and Advisory Services (BINAS), Vienna. BINAS is a service
of the United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO). It is a comprehensive data resource
for: biotechnology regulations, field releases of transgenic organisms, experts in risk assessment,
national regulatory authorities, and biosafety related bibliography.

Social- International Labor Organization (ILO) .The standards initiative: Report of the fifth meeting of
the Standards Review Mechanism Tripartite Working Group (Geneva, 23–27 September 2019)

Ecological - UNESCO has broad mandates in the fields of education, natural sciences, social and human
sciences, culture, and communication and information. Its policies, programmes and projects provide
opportunities and have significant impacts (positive and negative) for indigenous peoples worldwide.

2. What are the effects of the policies implemented on the local (Philippines) and international arena?

 The policies implemented on the local and international arena tend to lean on the positive side
because they help maintain the balance and helps to promote sustainability in a large scale. But
some of these policies can trample small time businesses and in turn makes some of the peoples
live miserable although this policies are for the greater good of humanity

Lesson 13

Activity 1. The Hidden Words!

Instructions: Below is a box that shows the letters and its corresponding numbers. Next is a diagram
corresponded with an empty box. In the left boxes are series of numbers that represent the hidden
words. Solve these hidden words using the box of ―The Letters and Its Numeric Symbol‖. Write your
answer in the blank provided in each box. After revealing the hidden words, define the terms according
to your understanding. Do not copy from the textbook or any references.

A. Think and Solve

Instruction: What are the problems or challenges in your community in which food security is concern?
Give at least 5. What are the possible solutions of these problems and challenges? Write your answers in
the diagram below.

Problem Proposed solution

1. Improper waste management Provide more strict policies on waste
 management and better implementation
with a fine on those who break the policies
2. Teenage Pregnancy Provide sex education to students with
 ages above 15 so that we can avoid
teenage pregnancy.
3. Gender inequality Build a strong campaign against gender
 shaming and make an organization to help
promote gender equality.
4. Unemployment Provide jobs and workshops to cater all of

those looking for work

and should not be allowed to stray on the

to claim with a fine. If the owner does not
claim it after 5 days. The pound is obliged
to euthanize it.
Minute Paper

Direction: In the answer sheet provided, answer the following self-reflection statement.

Today, I have learned that:

1. The Global Food Security programme brings together the UK's major public funders to solve these
issues, increasing research cooperation and collaboration and making it easier to translate findings into
policy and practice.

2. Climate change has the potential to drastically alter the distribution and severity of pests and diseases
in crops and livestock, posing a serious threat to food production and animal welfare. Every year, about
a third of the food produced for human consumption is lost or wasted, whether early in the supply chain
due to pests and diseases, or late in the supply chain due to post-harvest losses.

3. Signatories to the Paris Agreement pledge to keep global average temperature rises well below 2°C
above pre-industrial levels, with a goal of 1.5°C. Emissions across all industries must therefore fall by
more than 80% by 2050 (ref 8), with even greater reductions needed to meet the 1.5°C goal.

Things I have realized and appreciated:

1. Food production is ultimately reliant on other ecosystem resources, so their preservation is critical.

2. More mouths to feed means an increasing population. The world's population is growing wealthier,
and wealthier people prefer to consume more and demand food that requires a lot of resources to
produce, such as meat and dairy.

3. Overweight, obesity, and diet-related non-communicable diseases like cardiovascular disease, stroke,
some cancers, and type 2 diabetes are on the rise in every country, in developed and developing
countries alike. Overweight or obese people currently account for more than half of the world's
population, with the two together accounting for more than half of the world's population

Things I have discovered:

1. On current trends, the food system is expected to account for the majority of the 2°C GHG emissions
budget, leaving little space for other sectors and rendering meeting the Paris Agreement nearly
impossible.

2. Climate change would exacerbate the problem by reducing the nutritional value of wheat, tubers, and
legumes, impacting essential nutrients like zinc and iron.

3. Food security is achieved when everyone has access to enough safe and nutritious food to fulfill their
needs for a healthy life in ways that are sustainable for the world. Food security, on the other hand,
faces a range of challenges in both development and use, which will necessitate more study.

Lesson 14
Activity 1: “My personal concept map.”

Application (Guess what?)

Instruction: Below are pictures related to the Ethics of Global Citizenship. Write a brief description (at
least one word describing the image) and give the role or importance of it to the society.

1. Rights- the image shows white policeman and black skinned man. This issue has been going on
for so long because white people tend to disregard the rights of black person as they think that
they are much more superior to them. So in my opinion this image suggest rights
2. Culture- the image shows different costumes and attire of differing culture. So it suggest culture,
culture is the reflection of society. Culture a way of life or a way of doing things that is shared by
a group of people. It is the aggregate of a group's, organization's, or society's common attitudes,
principles, priorities, and practices.
3. Unity – the image shows different species trying to fight a fire. It suggest about unity amidst
diversity.
4. Global community or global citizenship- the image shows a silhouette of many people in front of
an image of the map of the world.
5. Generosity – the image shows people giving relief packages to the ones who have been struck
by a natural disaster. Giving can go a long way
6. Discipline- the image shows people wearing facemask in a crowded place. Discipline is important
in society because without discipline, there would be no method and everything would just
become a mess.
