Remove and install coolant pump (Z 12 XE, Z 12 XEP, Z 14 XEP, with air
conditioning, LHD)
Note: KM-6394 must be used as of model year 04 instead of KM-6169-1 .

Remove

1. Open bonnet
2. Remove air cleaner housing (1)
• Disconnect 2 wiring harness plugs
– Hot film mass air flow sensor (3), tank
vent valve (2)
• Unclip tank vent valve
• Remove suction pipe (4)
– Unscrew 2 nuts
– Detach engine vent hose (5)
• For Z 12 XEP, Z 14 XEP: detach air intake
hose
– Release clamp
• Remove bolt (arrow)

3. Loosen right front wheel.

4. Raise vehicle
5. Remove right front wheel.
• Unscrew 4 bolts
6. Raise vehicle
7. Remove ribbed V-belt cover
• Unscrew 3 bolts (1)
• Remove clip (arrow)

8. Attach KM-6169-2 to transmission

 • Tighten 2 bolts 95 Nm

9. Attach KM-6169 (1)

• Place left of KM-6169 onto front axle body
(arrows, illus. I)
– Guide pin must be seated in bore in front
axle body
• Attach both right holders on the front axle
body (arrows, Illus. II).
– Guide pin must be seated in bore in front
axle body (arrow, Fig. III)
• Tighten 2 bolts
10. Fit support to KM-6169
• Adjust bracket (2) for
support
• Screw on nut (1)
11. Adjust supports
• Transmission side
– Turn spindles until
mounts (3) are
positioned at guide
journals free of play
• Engine timing side
– Insert journal of the
support in the bore
of the cylinder
block without play
(arrow)
 – Tighten nuts (1)

12. Loosen right engine bracket

• Loosen lower bolt (1)
13. Lower vehicle
14. Drain coolant
• Place collecting basin underneath.
• Open drain bolt (arrow)

15. Lower vehicle

16. Remove right engine bracket
• Loosen engine damping block
– Unscrew 2 bolts (1)
• Unscrew 2x bolt (arrows)
17. Loosen coolant pump ribbed V-belt pulley
• Undo 3 bolts

18. Remove ribbed V-belt

Note: Mark running direction and note
installation position
• Tension ribbed V-belt tensioner in direction of
arrow with KM-6131
• Use KM-6130 (1)
19. Remove coolant pump ribbed V-belt pulley
• Unscrew 3 bolts
20. Detach throttle body preheater hose (1)
21. Detach heater supply hose (3) from coolant
pump
22. Disconnect coolant temperature sensor (2)
wiring harness plug

23. Detach upper radiator hose (1) from coolant

pump
• Release clamp
24. Detach lower radiator hose (2) from coolant
pump
• Release clamp
25. Remove coolant pump (1)
Note: Note guide bushings during removal
• Unscrew 9 bolts
Note: Pay attention to different bolt lengths
(arrows = short bolts)
26. If fitted: Remove coolant pump cover (2)
Note: Note the different versions
• Unscrew 2 bolts
27. Unscrew closure bolt (3)
 Install

28. Install coolant connection

• Replace gasket
• Tighten 3 bolts 8 Nm
29. Screw in closure bolt
• Replace seal ring
• Tighten bolt 15 Nm
30. If present: fit coolant pump cover
• Replace gasket
• Tighten 2 bolts 8 Nm
31. Install coolant pump
Note: Ensure that guide sleeves are correctly seated (arrows)
 • Replace gasket (1)
• Tighten 3 bolts (2) 8 Nm

32. Connect coolant temperature sensor wiring

harness plug
33. Connect lower radiator hose
• Fasten clamp
34. Attach upper radiator hose
• Fasten clamp
35. Attach heater supply hose
36. Attach throttle body preheater hose
• Fasten clamp
37. Attach coolant pump ribbed V-belt pulley
• Screw in 3 bolts
38. Fit ribbed V-belt
Note: Observe running direction and
installation position
• Tension ribbed V-belt tensioner with KM-
6131
• Remove KM-6130
• Release ribbed V-belt tensioner
39. Fasten coolant pump ribbed V-belt pulley
• Tighten 3 bolts 20 Nm

40. Install right engine bracket

• Insert lower bolt
• Tighten 2 upper bolts 60 Nm
• Fasten engine damping block
– Tighten 2 bolts 40 Nm

41. Raise vehicle

42. Fasten right engine bracket
• Tighten lower bolt 60 Nm
43. Detach 2 supports
• Engine timing side
• Transmission side
44. detach KM-6169
45. Detach KM-6169-2
46. Close coolant drain bolt
47. Install ribbed V-belt cover
• Tighten 3 bolts
• Attach clip
48. Lower vehicle
49. Fasten right front wheel.
• Tighten 4 bolts 110 Nm
50. Install air cleaner housing
• Tighten bolt
• Attach suction pipe
– Replace seal ring
– Tighten 2 nuts
• For Z 12 XEP, Z 14 XEP: attach air intake hose
– Tighten clamp 3.5 Nm
• Attach engine vent hose
• Clip in tank vent valve
• Connect 2 wiring harness plugs
51. Connect battery
52. Calibrate steering angle sensor
• Switch on ignition
• Rotate the steering wheel one time from its right-hand to its left-hand stop
53. Top up and bleed cooling system – see operation "Cooling System, Top up and Bleed"
54. Program volatile memories
55. Close bonnet
