random and asked to leave the room simultaneously. Their badge numbers are noted.

2. A lot consists of 10 good articles, 4 with minor defects and 2 with major defects. One article
is chosen at random. Find the probability that it has

the bowl, successively and without replacement. What is the probability that X+Y=10?
7. From a well-shuffled pack of 52 cards, one card is drawn at random. What is the probability

8. A bag contains 7 red, 12 white and 4 green balls. What is the probability that
(i) 3 balls drawn are all white?

12. Box A contains 2 white and 4 black balls. Another box B contains 5 white and 7 black balls.
A ball is transferred from box A to box B. Then a ball is drawn from the box B. Find the
probability that it is white.
13. A student takes his examination in 4 subjects P,Q,R,S. He estimates his chances of passing

14.Urn A contains 8 white and 7 black balls. Urn B contains 9 black and 7 white balls. A ball is

Finally, a ball is selected from urn A. Find the probability that the ball is white.
15.Urn A contains 3 red and 2 white balls. Urn B contains 2 red and 5 white balls. An urn is
selected at random. A ball is drawn from this and put into the other. Then a ball is drawn
from that urn. Find the probability that both the balls are of same color.
16.Bag A contains 3 white, 2 black and 3 red balls. Bag B contains 4 white, 3 black and 5 red
balls. Bag C contains 5 white, 3 black and 2 red balls. One bag is chosen at random and 3
balls are drawn. They happen to be 1 white, 1 black and 1 red. What is the probability that

17.In general, when A and B play 12 games of chess, 6 are won by A, 4 by B and 2 end in a
draw. They agree to play a tournament consisting of 3 games. Find the probability that

(iii) A and B win alternatively.
(iv) B wins atleast 1 game.

are found to be 1 white and 1 green. Find the probability that the balls so drawn came from
the third urn.
20.The odds that a cricket team will win 3 matches are 5 to 2, 4 to 3 and 3 to 4. Find the
probability that the team will win the series of three matches.
21. A man tosses a coin and throws a die, beginning with a coin. What is the probability that
he gets a head before he gets a 5 or 6 on the die.
22. Two persons A and B toss an unbiased coin alternatively on the understanding that the
first one to get head wins. If A starts the game, find their respective chances of winning.
23. A and B play alternatively with a pair of dice. A wins if he throws a 6 before B throws a 7

24. 2% of the population have a certain blood disease in serious form,10% have it in a mild

the serious form of the disease?
25. There are two groups of subjects, one of which consists of 5 science and 3 engineering
subjects, and the other consists of 3 science and 5 engineering subjects. An unbiased coin is
tossed. If 3 or 5 comes up, a subject is selected at random from the first group, otherwise
from the second. Find the probability that an engineering subject is selected.
