Competence to develop:

The student identifies the processes of management and development of

industrial projects by combining knowledge, skills and methodologies
associated with an automation system in pursuit of effective and efficient
execution.
Thematic to be developed:
1. Implementation and Management of Automation Projects.
2. Reliability and Safety in Automation Processes.
Steps, phases or stage of the learning strategy to be developed
Phase 1 - Collect information for project resolution
During this phase, based on the concepts of management, administration,
reliability, and safety in industrial automation projects, students collect the
information necessary for the resolution of the proposed project. To do this,
they make use of specialized databases and other sources of information.
Activities to be developed

Make careful reading of the documents presented in the knowledge

environment of Unit 1. Management and administration of industrial
automation projects.

This phase seeks the student to identify the definition of management of

industrial automation projects, recognizing the processes, actions and
activities necessary for effective and efficient execution, from both
administrative and Operating.

Next, a project is presented that seeks to design an industrial automation

system for a juice mixing plant based on fruit pulp, this will be developed in
phases according to the aBPr strategy learning based on projects to make
more significant learning of the course.

Phase 1 - Collect information for project resolution: At this stage the

student identifies the elements of the project and collects the necessary and
relevant information through the use of specialized databases that allow him
to initiate the solution of the problem.

Project: Design of an industrial automation system for a fruit pulp-based

juice mixing plant.

Description of the juice mixing plant based on fruit pulp.

This section describes the project assigned to this course.
A group of UNAD students is hired to automate a juice plant based on pulp
from 3 fruit flavors (Mango, Blackberry, Apple), where the necessary
ingredients are stored in four tanks (tanks 1,2,3 and 4) with capacity of 250
liters each. The ingredients are combined into a fifth (5) tank called the
mixing tank (tank 5) with capacity for 1000 liters of product, which are
packaged subsequently.
To operate the mixing plant it is necessary to design an operation panel
where the following tasks can be performed in an automated manner:
• Controlling the filling levels of storage tanks
• Monitoring supply valve statuses
• Entering and transferring mixing rate

For the design of the automation system students must consider the
following specifications to configure in each task:

Tanks 1,2,3,4.
Each tank must have:
-inlet valve
-Output valve
-Level sensors
-Flow sensors
- Visual alarms by low level 20% and by high level 90% of the tank capacity.

Tank 5: In addition to the above requirements the mixing tank must have
an agitator powered by a 3HP engine. It's necessary to control the frequency
at which the stirrer moves, as a high mixing speed can ruin the recipe of the
product, otherwise, if the speed is very low, it can delay the process by
raising production costs.

Due to the previously mentioned it is necessary to design PID controllers for

agitator speed (RPM) variables and mixing tank level.

Individual Activity

1. Make a conceptual map describing the Automation Project

Management Processes.
2. Make a comparison table between "Direction" and "Management"
industrial processes and present an example.
3. Explain the importance of the reliability and safety of industrial
processes, presenting its advantages, classification, and applications.
The explanation should be made with its own input and in case of using
other authors' foundations for support, the correct reference should
be made in APA standards

Collaborative Activity

1. Through specialized databases such as Science, Scielo, Redalyc,

Google Scholar, EBSCO, Scopus, or with which the university has an
agreement in the library, the collaborative group will look for 5 related
scientific articles proposed project no more than 5 years and should
be carried out by the following table for each of them:

3. The collaborative group must present the flowchart that represents all
the elements involved in juice mixing plant describing each of them.

Each member will assume the role within their working group by feeding the
contributions presented by each of their colleagues, making suggestions and
contributions of the case to enrich the development of the project.

The participation of the members of the collaborative group should be

evidenced in the collaborative forum.

Note: Contributions made by students in the last three days when the
collaborative forum is enabled will not be taken into account for the
qualification out of respect for students who met the presentation of their
contributions on time (decision No. 006808 of 19 August 2014).
The student should review the related literature in the
knowledge environment to address the proposed
subject in Unit 1. Management and administration of
