Activity guide and evaluation rubric - Phase 1 - Collect information

for project resolution

1. Description of the activity

Type of activity: In collaborative group

Evaluation time: Intermediate
Maximum score of the activity: 110 points
Activity starts on: Monday, Activity ends on: Sunday, March 20,
February 21, 2022 2022
With this activity it is expected to achieve the following learning
outcomes:

Learning result 1: Classify industrial project management and

development processes by combining knowledge, skills and
methodologies associated with an automation system in order to achieve
effective and efficient execution.
The activity consists of:

Make careful reading of the documents presented in the knowledge

environment of Unit 1. Management and administration of industrial
automation projects.

This phase seeks for the student to identify the definition of industrial
automation project management, recognizing the processes, actions and
activities necessary for effective and efficient execution, from both
administrative and operational points of view.

Next, a project is presented that seeks to design an industrial automation

system for a juice mixing plant based on fruit pulp, this will be developed
in phases according to the PBL project-based learning strategy to make
the learning of the course more meaningful.

1
In this phase, the student identifies the elements of the project and
collects the necessary and pertinent information through the use of
specialized databases that allow him to start solving the problem.

Project: Design of an industrial automation system for a juice

mixing plant based on fruit pulp.

Description of the fruit pulp juice mixing plant.

This section describes the project assigned to this course.

A group of UNAD students is hired to automate a plant where juices,

nectars and soft drinks are manufactured based on pulp of 3 fruit flavors
(Mango, Blackberry, Apple), the necessary ingredients are stored in three
tanks (tanks 1, 2,3) with a capacity of 250 liters each. The ingredients are
combined in a fourth (4) tank called a mixing tank (tank 4) with a capacity
for 750 liters of product, which are then packed.

To operate the mixing plant, it is necessary to design an operation panel

where the following tasks can be carried out in an automated manner:

• Control the filling levels of the storage tanks

• Monitor the states of the supply valves
• Enter and transfer mixing ratios

For the design of the automation system, students must take into account
the following specifications to configure each task:

Tanks 1,2,3,4.
Each tank must have:
-Inlet valve
-Outlet valve
-Level sensors
-Flow sensors
-Visual alarms for low level 20% and for high level 90% of the tank
capacity.

Tank 4: In addition to the above requirements, the mixing tank must

have an agitator powered by a 3HP motor. It is necessary to control the
speed at which the agitator moves, since a high mixing speed can ruin the

2
product recipe, otherwise, if the speed is too low, it can delay the process,
raising production costs.

Therefore, it is necessary to design a PID controller for the agitator speed

variable (RPM).
For the development of the activity, keep in mind that:
In the initial Information environment you must:

Take into account the start and end dates of the activity set out in the
course agenda.

Review the hours of service via Skype of your assigned tutor and keep
him in mind for the resolution of specific doubts and concerns.

Review the schedule of synchronous meetings via webconference.

In the Learning environment you must:

Review the bibliographic references available for unit 1.

Download and carefully read the guide and rubric of the proposed
activity.

Consult the collaborative forum and make contributions to receive

feedback from the tutor and fellow group members.

In the Assessment environment you must:

Consolidated document in pdf with the elements requested in the

activity guide. The delivery extension is: Group xx-phase 2
Evidence of independent work:
The independent work evidences to deliver are:

1. Make a concept map entitled Automation Project Management

Processes include the following aspects:

What is project management and its purpose with automation.

Difference between directing and managing industrial processes, include

an example.

3
Importance of the reliability and security of the processes, list advantages.

Note: Make the correct referencing in APA standards and socialize in the
forum, conceptual map image or access link in the cloud.

Evidence of group work:

The group work evidences to be delivered are:

1. Each member of the group must consult 1 or 2 articles associated with

the proposed project, fill out table 1 and make a contribution to the forum.

Through specialized databases such as Science, Scielo, Redalyc, Google

Scholar, EBSCO, Scopus, or those with which the university has an
agreement in the library, the collaborative group will search for 5 scientific
articles related to the proposed project for no more than 5 years and you
must fill out the following table:

Table 1. Analytical summary of scientific articles

contributions do you generate to develop the project that

2. Each member of the group must make a contribution in the forum,

where they show contribution to the development of table A.

Based on the standards NTC 5514, NTC 5468 and NTC 3549 of the
Colombian Institute of Technical Standards and ICONTEC Certification, the
members of the group must consolidate Table A, referring to the
manufacture of industrial beverages.

3. Each member of the group must make a contribution to the forum,

evidencing their contribution to the development of the block diagram.

The collaborative group must present the block diagram and description
of all the elements that they consider necessary to represent the elements
that make up the juice mixing plant.

Each member will assume the role within their work group, feeding back
the contributions presented by each of their colleagues, making
suggestions and contributions of the case to enrich the development of
the project.

2. General guidelines for the elaboration of the learning
evidences to be delivered.

For evidence prepared in a collaborative group

Document written under APA standards that includes:

•Cover page
•Introduction

Development of the proposed activities:

The document must contain a developed conceptual map proposed by

each member as a result of the development of the independent
activity, include: What is project management and its purpose.
Difference between directing and managing industrial processes,
include an example. Importance of the reliability and security of the
processes, relate advantages.

•Collaboratively fill out Table 1, Consult 5 scientific articles related to

the proposed project.
•Collaboratively consolidate Table A, referring to NTC standards.
•Show a block diagram that represents and describes all the elements
involved in the mixing plant.
•Conclusions.
•Bibliographic references

In writing the report, you must use the APA standards (citations and
references)

1. All members of the group must participate with their contributions in

the development of the activity.

2. In each group they must choose a single member who will be in

charge of delivering the requested product in the environment indicated
by the teacher.

3. Before delivering the requested product, they must check that it

meets all the requirements indicated in this activity guide.

6
Only those group members who have participated with contributions
during the time allocated for the activity should be included as authors
of the delivered product.

Please note that all individual or group written products must comply
with the spelling standards and presentation conditions that have been
defined.
Regarding the use of references, consider that the product of this
activity must comply with APA standards
In any case, comply with the referencing standards and avoid academic
plagiarism, for this you can support yourself by reviewing your written
products using the Turnitin tool found on the virtual campus.

Consider that in the agreement 029 of December 13, 2013, article 99,
the following are considered as offenses that violate the academic order,
among others: literal e) “Plagiarizing, that is, presenting the all or part
of a work, work, document or invention made by another person. It also
implies the use of missing citations or references, or proposing a citation
where there is no coincidence between it and the reference "and liberal
f)" The reproduction, or copying for profit, educational materials or
results of research products, which have intellectual rights reserved for
the University "

The academic sanctions that the student will face are the following:
a) In cases of academic fraud demonstrated in the academic work or
respective evaluation, the grade that will be imposed will be zero points
without prejudice to the corresponding disciplinary sanction.
b) In cases related to plagiarism demonstrated in academic work
whatever its nature, the grade that will be imposed will be zero points,
without prejudice to the corresponding disciplinary sanction.
