B.Optometery

a. A supportive, structured learning environment that encourages an attitude of continuing


professional development and independent lifelong learning

b. A diversity of approaches to teaching and learning, incorporating both formative and


summative methods of assessment .
c. Integration of theoretical, practical and clinical aspects of the curriculum .
d. Perform visual examinations and relevant procedures included in the scope of Optometry
(as stipulated by the Professional Board of Optometry and Dispensing Opticians) in the
clinical environment as an optometrist.
e. Independently apply promotive, diagnostic and treatment strategies in a cost effective
manner appropriate to the needs of the community.
f. Use critical optometric reasoning for holistic management strategies in diagnosis and
prognosis.
g. Establish a foundation for research and life skills for lifelong learning.
h. Knowledge of ocular and systemic disease to a level necessary for them to function as
effective primary care optometric practitioners
i. An understanding of the role of optometry as a healthcare profession, and the
expectations and responsibilities of healthcare professionals
j. Ability to communicate effectively with patients and professional colleagues through the
application of a range of skills using English as the primary language of communication
k. Ability to relate research findings to optometry practice.
