Barangay Apopong of General Santos City

Benchmarks at La Fortuna National High School

Narrative Report

Garbage has been a big problem for La Fortuna National High School before. But

as of this moment we are proud to say that the school on its current state is improving in

terms of proper waste disposal.

Meanwhile, last September 14, 2019 we received a letter from barangay

Apopong, General Santos City requesting to benchmark our ESWM best practices.

Immediately, the school accepted the said request though we are still on the process of

the full implementation of the said program.

On September 17, 2019 a team from barangay Apopong, General Santos City

had finally arrived in our school at exactly 8:25 in the morning. The team was headed by

the two barangay administrative officer namely Mr. Ponciano J. Cemagala and Mr.Jun

Lacea and was escorted by Mr. Angelito T. Rulida, the Municipal Environment and

Natural Resouces officer of Veruela.

On the other hand, Nimfa P. Balasabas, Principal II of our school welcome and

led the team as they roam around the school to observed the implemented projects and

practices related to ESWM just like benches and junior fence made of eco-bricks,

recycled waste products and unused tires for school beautification and ground

improvement. The visitors also enjoyed doing some activities such as taking pictures,

making fun of the “Anananggal” also known as jeans planters and twisting unused tires.

Lastly, the benchmarking activity of the said barangay in our school was

successful. It only proves that La Fortuna National High School is truly having a good

start in our way to the full implementation and sustainability of the Ecological Solid

Waste Management program.
