NARRATIVE REPORT ON 2021 BRIGADA

ESKWELA
School is an institution which is responsible for molding the learners to
become a responsible individual of the society. A student is to be crafted here
to be a better person that will become an emblem of the kind of a learning
center where he will grow. The school demands administrators and teachers to
work with others; it includes the stakeholders, volunteers, government and
non-government organizations, and other institutions to accomplish the
designed tasks and objectives. These would need dedicated school personnel,
cooperative parents, accountable community, and innovative learners.

The DepEd Memorandum No. 066, s. 2018 otherwise known as National

Schools Maintenance Week or commonly called Brigada Eskwela aims to
prepare the school with the help of the above others in collaboration with
administrators and teachers. The theme for this year’s activity is “Bayanihan
Para sa Paaralan.” The activity happens one week ahead before the formal
opening of classes commences August 3- September 30, 2021.

One of the high motivations for Brigada Eskwela is knowing the fact that
environment plays an enormous role in the students' learning. The schools and
classrooms, as well as facility that are not conducive to learners hinder the
quality of learning that they will be getting. So, the initiative of the DepEd to
have a spirit of volunteerism, Bayanihan as we Filipinos call it to clean up and

repair the school and its facility before the opening of classes is one of the best
activities that Sabino Rebagay Memorial High School is proud of every year.

As well, believing that the community cannot stand without the school, and
likewise the school without the community, the school is the face of the
community. Thus, all the people in the community even those whose children
are not studying in the school share a part of themselves, give a hard work and
volunteer themselves to support the program. Thus, the school personnel are
very much indebted to the primary stakeholders (the students and the parents
in school), the Baranggay officials of Tobgon and all the volunteers for without
them, the following would not have been made possible:

August 28,29,31, September 1,3 is intended for Planning for Brigada Eskwela
and Posting Announcements Per Baranggay in Coordination with the Brgy.
Officials.

FIRST DAY/ OPENING September 6, 2021 (Grade 7)

The launching of Brigada Eskwela at Sabino Rebagay Memorial High

School was held last September 6, 2021. An opening program was held at the
SRMHS ground with the GPTA Officers, Brgy Officials, SK Officials, Parents,
Teachers and other stakeholders. It started with an opening prayer led by Ms.
Hidelisa Nobleza, Grade 7-adviser. The school principal, Ma’am Eleanor
Cardiente gave her message and thanked all the parents and officials for the
support they are giving to the school. Consequently, the Brigada Eskwela
Coordinator, Ma’am Diosa N. Capistrano informed the parents of the scheduled
date for each year level. The school was also grateful for the support given by
the GPTA Officers headed by Mr. Rolly Regalario. He also gave a short message
in behalf of the parents.

After the short program, the teachers, parents, GPTA officials, volunteer
tutors and other stakeholder wrote their commitment on the BE Commitment
Wall. This is a symbol of their support and cooperation to this year’s Brigada
Eskwela.

Giving the parents some time to rest after the program, the Grade 7
parents and Brgy. Officials and SK Officials of Brgy. Tobgon went to their
respective areas to clean. Some of the parents fenced the back part of the
school. The parents brought “saringsing” and “bula”. The tie wire was solicited
from a generous donor. With their help and cooperation of all, they finish the
fencing. While some of the parents helped in the beautification of the garden of
the Grade 7 rooms. Some also cleaned inside and outside the rooms and along
the pathway going to the office. The parents and volunteers signed in the
attendance sheet to end the first day of the Brigada Eskwela.

SECOND AND THIRD DAY September 7-8, 2021 (Grade 8 and Grade 9)

The second day of Brigada Eskwela which was supposedly on September

7, 2021 was moved to September 8, 2021 due to the typhoon Jolina. The
volunteers for that day were advised to just report the next day. So, on the
third day, September 8, 2021 the Grade 8 and 9 parents and the Brgy Officials
of Badbad volunteered to work for that day. The Grade 8 advisers, parents and
some Badbad Barangay Officials worked together to prepare school for the
opening of the school year in September 13. But due to typhoon Jolina, only
few parents willingly shared their time and effort to clean and prepare the
school. Some parents cleaned their assigned area and the others helped the
teacher to clean the room. Other parents went to school on the other day.
Overall, the second day of Brigada was indeed fruitful and productive. Amidst
the pandemic and heavy rain parents show their support to the school.

FOURTH DAY SEPTEMBER 9, 2021 (GRADE 10)

On the 4th day of Brigada Eskwela, September 9, 2021, the Grade – 10

parents and 4Ps members were the first ones who came in the school. They
were guided by Mrs. Diosa N. Capistrano and Mr. Romer R. Oquendo, teachers
in- charge, as to which area they were assigned to clean- Grade-10 rooms, its
gardens, backyard, surrounding of the property room, library and the comfort
room beside it. The female parents/ guardians did the cleaning of the above-
mentioned area and the male parents/ guardians did the repairing of gardens
and backyard fencing. Meanwhile, The Alpha Kappa Rho Group, headed by Mr.
JJ R. Juarez arrived as well to be part of the BE. They likewise rendered
services like painting the Principal’s office and transferring steel cabinets from
the office to the property room and Senior High School room.

At 10:00 a.m., everybody enjoyed eating macaroni soup sponsored by

one of the stakeholders of the school. After which, they had continued doing
their respective tasks until they finished it. At exactly 11: 30 a.m. the parents
signed the attendance sheet together with the 4Ps members. They also listed
the fencing materials they brought, served as donations to the school. The

the school awarded each of them a Certificate of Appreciation for the service
they rendered during this activity.

FIFTH DAY SEPTEMBER 10, 2021 (GRADE 11)

September 10, 2021 was the fifth day of Brigada Eskwela. The volunteers

garden was also done during this day. The volunteers also planted kamote and
other vegetable seed in the plot.

The day before, the parents were instructed to bring Malunggay Tree.
Therefore, on that day the parent brought Malunggay Tree which the pplanted
along the pathway going to the Senior High School building. This commenced
the 5th day of Brigada Eskwela.

SIXTH DAY/LAST DAY BRIGADA SEPTEMBER 13, 2021 (GRADE 12)

The last day of Brigada Eskwela was on September 13, 2021. All grade
level from Grade 12 parents and some 4P’s parents worked for this day. They
also cleaned the rooms, fenced the garden and planted the Malunggay Tree at
the back of the Senior High School Building. The parents happily worked
together for the improvement of the school grounds. The success of the
implementation of Brigada Eskwela lies in the collaborative effort of school
heads, private partners, local government units, and the community members,
including parents and students. Through the overwhelming support of the
volunteers, the classrooms are restructured and
spruced up. All school facilities are now in good condition. The school is now
free from tall grasses. Generally, the school is now ready for the school
opening. Evidences for the week long activity are attached herewith.

Apart from instilling school pride in the community, the Brigada Eskwela
campaign provides an opportunity for everyone to contribute in the future of
the Filipino youth and in nation-building. "As we plant trees, we contribute to a
greener environment. As we paint chairs and cover books, we help future
nation builders achieve their best, and as we paint murals, we inspire them to
imagine what is possible and motivate them to work their hardest.

Sometimes years back, we heard the words from the Executive Director of the
Adopt-A-School Program, Mari Paul Soriano that goes, “We cannot afford to fail
our youth, we cannot afford to fail our nation.” It was his words when he
graced one of the many Brigada Eskwela awarding ceremonies. However, up to
now, his words continue to ring as implementers voluntarily and tirelessly pool
their resources and efforts. Then, work collectively so that school public
utilities are well- set in time for the school opening .

The success of the Brigada Eskwela is a proof of the commitment of our

stakeholders to improve the learning environment of the school continuously.
There is a considerable increase in support from the barangay officials, Local
government Unit (LGU) of Pili, Students Supreme Government/Supreme
Student Council, Pantawid Pamilya Pilipino Program (4Ps), Philippine National
Police (PNP), business sectors, and other education stakeholders such as Bicol
University College of Social Sciences and Philosophy BUCSSP. Even the
students of Sabino Rebagay Memorial High School manifest a new vision as
they come to school early to help.

The school teaching staff views this as a fresh start to work double to improve
the key performance indicators of Sabino Rebagay Memorial High School.
Being the Brigada Eskwela Coordinator is not an easy task but it really
challenge me a lot. And for that 6 Days Brigada Eskwela though it is so tiring
for me because I was there to monitor every day’s task and activities including
the volunteers , but for me it’s the best experience ever that I will treasure
because I’ve learned a lot.
