To be tempted is to be enticed to do something we find attractive but we know is wrong or not beneficial.

Temptation is always there because the devil is everywhere. The bible even says that the devil is prowling
around like a lion seeking someone to devour. But we only commit sins when we consent to temptations.
No one is free from temptations. Even Jesus Christ was tempted 3 times.
1st temptation: Hedonism (hunger/satisfaction) Lust of Body
After being baptized by John the Baptist, Jesus fasted forty days and forty nights, he was hungry. The
devil came to him in the Judaean Desert and said, “If you are the Son of God, tell these stones to become
bread”
“Man shall not live on bread alone, but on every word that proceeds out of the mouth of god”
Food will only satisfy our physical needs. But life under God’s guidance is a life well-lived.
2nd temptation: Egoism (spectacular throw/might) Pride of life
5
Then the devil took Jesus to a high place and said “If you are the Son of God,” he said, “throw yourself down.
7
Jesus answered him, “It is also written: ‘Do not put the Lord your God to the test.’[d]”
We should not put God to the test. He has proven His greatness many times. He is true to His promises. We
have no right to question Him.
3rd temptation: Materialism (kingdoms/wealth) Lust of Eyes
8
Again, the devil took him to a very high mountain and showed him all the kingdoms of the world and their
splendor. 9 “All this I will give you,” he said, “if you will bow down and worship me.”
10
Jesus said to him, “Away from me, Satan! For it is written: ‘Worship the Lord your God, and serve him
only.’[e]”
As we all know, no one can serve two masters at a time. So if God is the god of all goodness, which master
do we really choose when let the bad desires of our flesh prevail? We decide who we serve and let us always
choose God by not consenting to temptations.
Everyday is a battle between our flesh and our spirit. When you let your flesh prevail over your spirit, you may
feel satisfied and happy but actually that satisfaction is only temporary. Because the fruit of sins is death. Yes,
we are sinful in nature but we should not let sin reign in our life. God has already won us over 2000 years
ago. By his sacrificial life, death and resurrection on the third day, He rose victorious over sin in all its forms.
Only Jesus overcame the grave.
We were once slaves to sin but God already broke that chain.
The victory that Jesus achieved is given to us all as a gift from God, by his grace, and we are made right in
God’s eye. But you were washed, but you were sanctified, but you were justified in the name of the Lord Jesus
and by the Spirit of our God. , but with the precious blood of Christ

The 6th petition urges us to be vigilant or watchful. So in Our Father, we ask him not to allow us to take the
way that leads to sin. By praying, the Lord vanquishes the tempter.
