Best, et al. “Online Communication, Social Media and Adolescent Wellbeing: A Systematic

Narrative Review.” Children and Youth Services Review, vol. 41, 2014, pp. 27–36.

9/13/19.

This article discusses the topic of mental well being amongst young people and if social

technologies are negatively impacting them. It revealed evidence that showed benefits

and positive outcomes that came out of social technologies. Alongside that they also

found negative outcomes that came out of social technologies, such as social isolation

and depression. The young people had mixed views and opinions on the benefits and

harms of social technology. Some viewed social technologies as a positive environment

while others saw it more as a harmful one. I would use this article if I needed information

on how technology is creating and encouraging a more positive mental well being for

young people while also creating a harmful environment for others.

communication technology had an affect on the development of adolescents. The results

from the studies showed that adolescents were affected from communication technology

in the way that it caused issues in their identity and in their relationships. I would use this

article if I was looking for examples on how technology creates problems in the identities

and relationships of adolescents.

and Consuming User-Generated Content about Diabetes and Mental Health.” Social

Science & Medicine, vol. 170, 2016, pp. 46–54. 9/13/19.

This article discusses and provides a study on social media and its relation to health

experiences. The aim of the study was to find out if social media created any positive

support for people with long-term health problems. It also explored if these people were

limited by social media in any way. The article goes on to reveal how social media

created some support for people with long-term health problems but also had limitations

for them in the way that there were barriers to their participation. I can see this being

useful for my essay if I need examples on how there are limitations in social media.
