A1.Manohar has been and employee to the firm since past seven years.

record manohar has been a very good employee to the firm and has benefited the company in many
ways. Manohar has played a very vital role in the engineering department and had been facing good
challenges. Fortunately living up well to all the challenges.

The top management of the company had decided to appoint manohar as the manager of the
engineering department. Manohar had always been an engineer and was made a magaer by the
management. Though he never wanted to. As per the case we can see that manohar was very
passionate about his profession as he never stopped practicing as an engineer even if he had to work
late hours. Therefore as the mindset of manohar was moreof an engineer he couldn’t manage the
department. This caused a major problem.

A2. Management is defined as the art of getting the work done from others. Being a manager of the
engineering department makes the duty of manohar to manage the engineers under him and to takeout
maximum work from them. But the case says that manohar being too passionate about his profession
he never wanted to leave engineering and was himself very occupied with the engineering works.
Manohar was very much involved with routine engineering. This way he couldn’t manage the
department. Therefore a manger has to manage people and take out the output from the working
people. On the other hand an engineer is focused to the routine engineering works.

A3. No being a good engineer does not necessarily mean that the person has the same qualities as that
of a manager. As management in itself is a quality and is a combination of various skills. On the other
hand being an engineer requires knowledge skill and ability to do work in the required direction. Not
every person can be a good manager who is a good engineer. The person who is passionate about
engineering does not necessarily mean that he can manage people at work.

A4. Yes I do feel that the management has made a mistake by promoting manohar as a manger as
manohar is a successful engineer to the company whos has given the company many designs which have
been popular and profitable to the company. The company must have provoked or promoted manohar
to the head engineer or a highly qualified engineer that may have boosted him to work better and
perform well. As manohar did not perform well as the mangaerr should have its better to keep manhor
as the chief engineer in the company. So that the company is benefited from manohar and manohar
enjoys his work and lives his passion.

A5. To improve manohars performance as a manager. He must be given training and his personalty
must be developed in a similar manner to use his knowledge of engineering in the direction of guiding
others and taking out work from subordinates. The manger must know his goals and should strive hard
in achieving the group goals. He should give target to the junior engineers working under him and thus
strive to achieve them. Thus he can be a successful manager and can prove to profitable to the
company.
