Dear Sir,

I have gone through various articles and listed down most of the indicators commonly used to measure
social capital. I am still working on the indicators of Environmental services but haven’t got much time to
finish the task yet because of presentations and assignment of different subjects.

Indicators for social capital:

Most statistical studies on social capital rely either on specific questionnaires conducted in a few regions
or on survey information based on national samples. Most commonly used indicators are:

o Trust
o Generalized trust
o Group membership
o Civic cooperation
o Voting turnout
o Volunteering
o Reciprocity
o Family structure

Examples of macro level indexes used to measure social capital:

 World Values Survey (WVS) (Includes the European Values Survey)

TInglehart (1997) http://www.worldvaluessurvey.org
 Putnam’s Social Capital Index Instrument
Putnam (2000)
 General Social Survey (GSS)
National Opinion Research Center, University of Chicago (Biennial Survey)
 Global Social Capital Survey
Narayan and Cassidy (2001)
 New South Wales Study
Onyx and Bullen (2000)
 The Barometer of Social Capital
Sudarsky (1999)
