STORYTELLING IN INSTRUCTIONAL VIDEO 2

Abstract

This paper critiqued the instructional value of a Brave New Films’ video How "Protect & Serve"

Became "Search & Destroy". The everyday usage of rich media, specifically videos, in

instruction requires deliberation of current research and debate on the issue of whether they are

effective in today’s learning environments. Moreover, whether such learning objects are

effective for narrative-based instruction and how they should be designed has been considered in

evaluating the digital video that was selected for usage by community organizers as an intended

audience of learners.

Furthermore, the paper simultaneously examined both: the video’s propensity for use and

answers the question of whether this video is an effective learning object. Lastly, the benefits of

using design stories for each of the following elements of instructional systems design has been

analyzed: the design phase, as design communications, as well as, for the formative evaluation

phase.
