The Air Force is a separate arm of the US military which was created in 1947. In its
security operations, it uses the Global Positioning System (GPS) for tracking and good
communication among the soldiers on a mission. However, the old GPS system has become
venerable to security breaches and risks of exposing vital information to the enemies all this
being attributed to the old GPS satellite infrastructure which exists. For better security, the US
Air Force should employ the following solutions to improve the security of the GPS system;
Training of military personnel on how to avoid cyber-attacks on the devices they are
using will be a major solution to the GPS problem. Training will include all devices they are
using even the ones which are personal. There should also be an improvement and control of
Mobile Apps used like Strava and Polar Flow which have been said to expose vital information
Complete separation of the Air Force GPS system and the one used by the civilian
segment of private and commercial airlines (Lippold, 2016). Independence of the Air Force GPS
will reduce the attacks exposed to it and increase its efficiency. This will also reduce the
Installation of the next-generation GPS system will withstand all cyber-attacks from the
enemies will the final solution ("U.S. Air Force To Launch New Generation Of GPS Satellites",
2018). It will include replacing the current satellites in the space with new ones. Additionally,
new satellites should have greater accuracy and anti-jamming capabilities than the existing

In conclusion, with cutting edge technology and a fast-changing one, using an old one in
areas like defense always leads to insecurity. Adoption and improvement of new technology
always solve all problems encountered with the old one. Training of the personnel on how to use
the new technology also reduces the risks of the attacks. Lastly, military personnel needs to be
constantly educated on how to avoid being exposed to danger by gadgets they used which are
