1. Write any two applications of pressure in our daily life.

 Sharp knife cuts better than a blunt knife

 Porter place thick round on his head to carry heavy load.
2. A rocket has been fired upwards to launch a satellite in its orbit. Name the two forces acting on the
rocket immediately after having the launching pad.
Two forces are as follows
 Gravitational Force
 Friction due to air or force of friction.
3. A pendulum oscillates 40 times in 4 sec. Find its time period and frequency.
Given, no. of oscillations =40
Time taken = 4 S
𝑛𝑜.𝑜𝑓 𝑜𝑠𝑐𝑖𝑙𝑙𝑎𝑡𝑖𝑜𝑛 40
Frequency = 𝑇𝑖𝑚𝑒 𝑡𝑎𝑘𝑒𝑛
= 4
= 10 Hz
1 1
Time Period = 𝑓𝑟𝑒𝑞𝑢𝑒𝑛𝑐𝑦 = 10

= 0.1 Sec

1. List out the sources of noise pollution in your surroundings.

 Television and transistor radio at high volume.
 Sounds of vehicles
 Explosions including bursting of crackers, machines, loudspeakers, etc.
 Honking of horns.

2. Write the effects of force.

 Force can move a stationary object
 Force can stop a moving object.
 Force can change the speed of moving object.
 Force can change the direction of moving object.
 Force can change the shape and size of an object.
 Force can change the state the motion

3. Give an examples to show that friction is both a friend and a foe.

Friction as a friend:
 Its allows us to walk comfortably.
 It allows us to minimise the speed or to stop the moving objects.
 It allows us to write on a board with chalk

Friction as Foe:

 It causes wear and tear in objects.

 It causes damage to the parts of machines.
 It does not allow the free movement to objects.

1. Sketch larynx and explain its function and working.
Function:
 It is the upper end of the wind pipe
 Two vocal cards are stretched across the voice box or larynx.
 The vocal cards stretched in such a manner that it leaves a narrow slit between them for
the passage of air

Working :

 When the lungs force ait through the slit, the vocal card vibrate and hence producing
sound.
 Muscles attached to the vocal cards can make the cords tight or loose.
 When the vocal cords are tight and thin, the type or quality of voice is different from that
when they are loose.
1. Give two examples for push or pull.
 We push the door to open it.
 We pull a drawer to open it.
2. Name the force helps to write by chalk on blackboard?
Frictional force helps to write by chalk on blackboard.
3. What is Noise? And give two example.
The sounds which are unpleasant to hear are called as Noise.
Example: Running of mixer and grinder

4. Mention any 3 methods of reducing and increasing friction.

Methods to increase friction:
 The soles of shoes are made up of grooves to increase friction
 The tyres of vehicles are made up of treads to increase friction
 Kabaddi players usually rub their hands with dry soil to increase friction.

Methods to reduce friction:

 We sprinkle fine power on the carrom board to reduce friction.

 By applying Lubricants like grease or oil between the moving part of machine.
 When a few drops of oil are poured on the hinges of a door.
