Script for Hera

(Hera walks into the room proudly)

Hello, mortals, gods and goddesses, (swing your hand around the room to the
audience) I am the queen of the Olympians (take a breath) – Hera. I live on Mount
Olympus with the other gods and goddesses. I am the goddess of marriage and
child birth, and of course, I take special care of married women. (Say it proudly)

My father is Cronus, who was the ruling Titan who came to power by
overthrowing his father Uranus. My mother is Rhea, the goddess of fertility,
motherhood, and generation. My brothers are Poseidon, Hades and Zeus, and my
sisters are Hestia and Demeter.

My parents were the two of the first Olympians, but because my father kept
swallowing the children as they were born, (With a little anger) my mother tricked
him. When Zeus was born he was hidden away, and eventually took the power
from Cronus.

Speaking of Zeus, he is a nasty person. (Deep voice, full of anger and jealousy). He
tricked me to marry him. He turned himself in a cuckoo, and flew into my arms. I
didn’t know the cuckoo was him, (Say it desperately) so I took the wet little bird
and hugged it to keep it warm, but suddenly, he turned back into Zeus. I will never
forget that day.

Even though Zeus married me, he often sneaks down to the Earth in disguise to
marry mortal girls. I always must keep my eye on him, and as punishment, I
torment his other wives and children.

One day, I saw Zeus with a snow-white cow. I knew the cow was actually his
newest wife, so I took her and tied her to the apple tree that bore golden apples
of immortality and set my favorite servant Argus to guard her. Argus had one
hundred eyes, and I thought if he was watching, Zeus could not take her away.
But, Zeus was trickier than I thought. (Angry) He sent Hermes, who told Argus a
boring story that put him to sleep, and then he was bored to death. I was furious
when I saw Argus dead and the cow free. To be sure Argus would never be
forgotten; I took his eyes and put them on a tail of the peacock.

Now you know something about me. I have the strength and power of the Queen
of Olympus. Even the Zeus cannot stop me when I am angry and jealous. But be
aware not to be so full of jealousy… it is not the right thing to get what you want.
(Tell it in a softer voice, like telling a story)

Hmmm… have you seen Zeus? He has been gone for a while… He’s probably out
marrying another mortal. I must go and look for him, (space) that tricky man. (Get
out of the room, quickly)
