What are SIPs?

 SIPs are the 21st Century Building Material

 Structural insulated panels (SIPs) are high performance building panels
used in floors, walls, and roofs for residential and light commercial
buildings.
 The panels are typically made by sandwiching a core of rigid foam
plastic insulation between two structural skins of oriented strand board
(OSB).
 Other skin material can be used for specific purposes. SIPs are manufactured under factory
controlled conditions and can be custom designed for each home. The result is a building system
that is extremely strong, energy efficient and cost effective. Building with SIPs will save time, money
and labor.

Are Structural Insulated Panels More Expensive?

 Building with SIPs generally costs about the same as building with
wood frame construction.

 Labor savings resulting from shorter construction time, less job-

site waste, less expensive heating and cooling systems
Why Build with SIPs?
SIPs are Strong
A SIP is like an I-Beam

Web = Core

Flange = Facing

 Structural integrity of a SIP building is significantly superior to a conventional stick framed house in terms of:
compressive resistance, flexural strength, shear resistance, and uplift resistance.

 SIPs have undergone exhaustive testing by many third party agencies.

 SIPs have proven themselves to be a powerful alternative to the standard fiberglass-stick frame.
Why Build with SIPs?
SIPs are Fast

 One of the best features of building with SIPs is

fast installation time.

 Indeed, construction time of a SIP building can

be shortened from four weeks to one week when
compared to a similar stick frame building.

 In fact, the Energy Studies in Building Laboratory

at the University of Oregon conducted extensive
testing on the labor requirements of SIPs and
determined that SIP homes could be completed in
161 hours less than their equivalent counterparts.

 This amounted to about 34% less on-site

construction time.
