ABSTRACT
All types of business organization, both large and small are using the information system,
networks and internet technology to conduct their operation smoothly, electronically and to
achieve their pre-determined objectives. Information system is an organized combination of
people, hardware, software, communication networks and a data resource that collects,
transforms, and disseminates information in an organization. MIS is the process which uses to
provide information in the field of the organization within the limited time that helps to take
accurate decision making in time.
Shikhar Insurance Company Limited (SICL) has proper information system used for the smooth
running of the organization. With our study we found out that MIS has helped in day to day
operation and has been able to make effective communication among its staffs, branches and
with its stakeholders. We mainly found the use of MIS system in the operation level and
management level so as to make day to day transactions more effective. The reports generated
are found to be very useful in decision making but we didn’t found any advanced level MIS
system. Client server network architecture have been used to connect every branch with head
office and intranet has been used to make work groups inside the organization where networking
devices like switch, hub, router also has played important role for organization to transfer its file.
LAN communication networks are used because of its high security and speed.

CHAPTER 1
INTRODUCTION
1.1 Background of study
Every student gins the practical knowledge from the classes which is not so easy to implement in
real life settings of the organization. As MBA program is the blend of both theoretical and
practical knowledge acquired in the classroom situation with the real time settings of the
organization.
Management Information System (MIS) is the computer based information system which
provides information support for decision making in the organization. MIS is an integrated
system of man and machine for providing the information to support the operations, the
management and decision making function in the organization. MIS is a system based on the
database of the organization evolved for the purpose of providing information to the people in
the organization.
This project report deals with the Management Information System that is being applied in the
Shikhar Insurance Company Limited for performing different functions regarding the insurance
policy under taken by the insures.
1.2 Objectives of the study
Each and every task is directed to certain goal The core objective of the project report is to
understand the MIS practices of an organization. The subsidiary objectives of the project report
are listed below:
1. To know the advantages or disadvantages of implementing MIS
2. To understand the difficulties faced in implementation of MIS
3. Sectors mainly affected by MIS inside the organization
4. To find out the linkage of each branch with the main server.
1.3Methodology of the Study
The report on field visit of Mega Bank Nepal Limited in reference to MIS is based on two
research methodology. Basically we followed primary and secondary sources for the preparation
of this report.

1.4 Scope and Limitations of the study:
The scope of the study is that it helps to make clear concept about the implementation of MIS in
Shikhar Insurance Company Ltd (SICL) and also helps to know the benefits gained by the
organization.
The limitations of this study are:-
Time insufficiency
Lack of practical questions
Just a partial fulfillment.
Dependence on single day observation

2.1 Introduction to Shikhar Insurance Company Limited (SICL)
Shikhar Insurance Company Ltd. (SICL) is an established General Insurance Company promoted
by a young team of reputed Industrial and Business Houses involved in various fields like
Aviation, Banking, Manufacturing, Trading, Travel Trade, Media Houses etc.
SICL is a company with a vision, geared up to face the every challenge that persists in the
insurance industry. The challenges being developing policies as per the requirement of the client
at an economical price, filling the void of the acute shortage of technical manpower in the
insurance industry, introducing new products at par with international standards, creating
capacities within the markets so that the outflow of the precious convertible currency can be
minimized etc.
