isfaction with the current
global efforts to combat cli-
mate change and called a
comprehensive approach
covering everything from
education to values and from
lifestyle to developmental
philosophy.
“What we need is a global
people’s movement to bring
about behavioural change.
The respect for nature, the
judicious use of resources,
reducing our needs and liv-
ing within our means have all
been important aspects of
both our traditions and pres-
ent day efforts. Need, not
greed, has been our guiding
principle,” he observed while
speaking at the Climate
Action Summit on the mar-
gins of the 74th UN General
Assembly that was attended
by 60 world leaders.
India today, he declared,
has come not just to talk
about the seriousness of this
issue, but also to present a
practical approach and a
roadmap. “We believe that an
ounce of practice is worth
more than a ton of preach-
ing,” he observed.
India was going to
increase the share of non-
fossil fuel, and by 2022 it

Speaking at a function here
to lay the foundation stone for
a new building of the Regis-
trar General of India, he said a
mobile app would be used for
the first time in the 2021 Cen-
sus. It would be a big revolu-
tion in the country’s Census
exercise, he claimed.
“Why can’t we have just
one card for all utilities like
Aadhaar, passport, bank
account, driving licence, voter
card and other services?
There should be a system to
put all data in a single card.
That’s why digital Census is
very important,” he said,
while noting that this was just
an idea and no decision has
yet been arrived at.

reference date is October 1,

To counter cannabis cultiva-
tion that has been rooted out
from most parts but is still
prevalent in a few higher
reaches of Himachal
Pradesh, the state police
department is all set to pur-
chase drones that will enable
its personnel to spot the
remote areas where the drug
is being grown illegally.
The drones, said sources,
would provide high-end ther-
mal images of cultivation and
precisely identify the loca-
tion, especially in areas cut-
off from habitations and not
connected by road or pedes-
trian path.
Following a massive drive
for eradication of cannabis
plantation, which also
involves attachment of prop-
erties of growers, the cultiva-
tion on private land has been
reduced to 5 per cent while 95

mediate between Pakistan
and India on the Kashmir
issue, but both sides have to
agree on that. Trump made
the remarks during his meet-

“If I can help, I will certain-
ly help,” Trump said, describ-
ing the Kashmir issue as a
“complex” one which has
been going on for a long time.
“If both (Pakistan and
India) want, I am ready to do
it,” he said, a day after attend-
ing ‘Howdy, Modi’ rally in
Houston, where he shared the
stage with PM Narendra
Modi and displayed a close
friendship and a common
vision on fighting terrorism.

Inputs with Indian Intelli-
gence agencies suggest
around 60 trained militants
have infiltrated from Pak-
istan into Jammu and Kash-
mir over the past two months.
There is a high possibility of
three to four infiltration
attempts within this week
mostly along the Line of Con-
trol in north Kashmir — Ker-
an, Uri and adjoining sectors,
the inputs indicate.
An alert has been sounded
due to the impending festival
season that starts with
Navaratras (from September
29) and ends two weeks after
Diwali (October 27).
Over the past two months,
infiltrations have taken place
on both sides of the Pir Panjal
mountain range that segre-
gates the Valley from the
Poonch-Jammu region,
sources said.
Initial estimates of infiltra-
tions were lower, however, the
multi-agency centre (MAC),
which collates data and
inputs from human intelli-
gence, radio intercepts and
other sources, has arrived at a
figure of 60 infiltrations over
the past two months.
Sources said the number of
