reason to not choose gmail.

Setting up a Gmail Account

Things you need:

A phone number
● Google requires you to have a cell phone in order to create a gmail account. If you do
not have a cell phone consider borrowing one from a friend or family member. Otherwise
consider using an email account alternative such as Microsoft Outlook or Yahoo Mail.
● A device to access the internet (computer, tablet, phone, etc.)

Steps:
1. First launch a web browser (such as: Google Chrome, Mozilla Firefox, Microsoft Edge or
Safari) and go to the website: mail.google.com.

2. Click on the red Button with the words: Create An Account. This will take you to a new
webpage.
3. Enter the information into the appropriate fields. Enter your first name and last name in
the appropriate text boxes.
4. Choose a username for your email. It can be anything… as long as someone does not
already have it! If it will be used for professional use, consider making it some
combination of your first and last name. Otherwise feel free to be creative!

5. A username may already be taken by another person. Two people CANNOT have the
same email address! If this happens, try adding a number, letter or period to your
username. Otherwise try another username.
Note: It does not matter if the letters are capitalized. Username, USERNAME,
and UsErNaMe are all treated as the same username.
6. Enter a password into the password box. Enter the same password into the confirm box.
Then click the blue next box.

Tip: If you would like to see your password instead of the dots (········) click the eye
icon. Click the icon again to go back to the dots.
7. For security your password may be rejected if it is too weak.Try making it stronger by
making the password a combination of letters, numbers and symbols such as !, @, $ or
&.
8. If your password is accepted, you will go to the next step. Enter your birthdate and
gender. A phone number and other email address are both optional, but strongly
consider adding these since they will allow you to access your email account if you lose
your password. Once you are done click the blue next button.
9. This will take you to the Privacy and Terms. This gives you all the information you need
to know regarding how Google uses your information.
10. Once you finish reading it, a blue accept button will pop up. Click it to create your new
Gmail Account.
11. Congratulations, you have a brand new Gmail account!
