Mission Statement: To provide statewide leadership in the


planning, promotion, education and organization of sports and
recreation opportunities for Iowans with physical and vision
disabilities.

Programs & Populations Served: We provide programs


from ages 7-90. Our current sports that we offer are Beep
Baseball, Goalball, Cycling, Track and Field, Airgun, Wheelchair
Basketball, Downhill Skiing, and Sled Hockey.

Organization: American Prosthetics and Orthotics Inc.

Mission Statement: American Prosthetics & Orthotics


maintains our original philosophy and fundamental mission to
provide quality prosthetic and orthotic services. It is recognized
that the success with which we meet this objective is dependent
upon providing care in an efficient, personalized, and respectful

Organization: Ames Convention and Visitors Bureau

Mission Statement: “Strive to be the recognized resource


(authority) in the growth, development, and execution of the
meeting, convention and event industry for Ames & Iowa State
University”

Programs & Populations Served: The Ames Convention &


Visitors Bureau (ACVB) has bid on and hosted events such as
the National Beep Baseball World Series (2012, 2016, 2020),
the National Junior Disability Championships (2014), the
United States Association of Blind Athletes Goalball National
Championships (2014), the Midwest Athletic Association of the
Deaf Softball tournament (2018), and the Special Olympics Iowa
State Summer games (annually). The ACVB has worked with
the Iowa Department of the Blind, Iowa Braille & Site Saving,
and the Iowa School for the Deaf to host camps at Iowa State
University.

Organization: Another Way Sports

Mission Statement: Our goal is to get more disabled people


active through promoting sports opportunities for disabled
people.
Programs & Populations Served: Currently we are attempting
to have a disabled water ski program. We have done multiple
clinics in the past, but this year due to personal issues with
some of our primary organizers and shortage of volunteers we
had to cancel our events. We are working to coordinate with the
Des Moines Slalom Club to restart events next summer. We will
work with any disabled person of any type.

Organization: Black Hawk County Conservation

Mission Statement: Black Hawk County Conservation


maintains nearly 9,000 acres. These include river accesses,
wetlands, wildlife areas, campgrounds, bike trails, geologic
sites, lodges, and nature center.

Mission Statement: Creating a better future through brain


injury prevention, advocacy, education, research and support

Organization: Cedar Rapids Parks and Recreation

Programs & Populations Served: The Parks and Recreation


Department manages over 4,171 acres of city owned property.
In addition to 96 areas formally named, there are hundreds of
acres held in reserve as undeveloped green space for future
park expansion and flood control. We operate and maintain
facilities for public use including four municipal golf courses,
six swimming pools, splash pads, 25 pavilions, Ushers Ferry
Historic Village, Old MacDonald’s Farm in Bever Park, Tuma
Soccer Complex, Tait Cummins Sports Complex, Noelridge Park
Greenhouse, and trails. The parks system receives countless
visits each year.

We offer more than 1,500 recreation programs annually. There is


something of interest for every age and ability level. Programs
are listed in the Play! guide which appears in the March, August
and November issues of Our CR magazine. Attendance for
aquatic and recreation programs totals more than 300,000
annually.

Organization: ChildServe

Mission Statement: ChildServe partners with families to help


children with special healthcare needs live a great life.

Programs & Populations Served: ChildServe knows kids, and


we know specialty healthcare. When parents have questions
about their child’s health and development, our team of experts
helps identify and meet the unique needs of each child. We offer
expert care, resources, and support to help families and children
adapt to life’s challenges and reach individual goals for success.
We serve children with developmental delays, disabilities,
injuries, and other special healthcare needs.

Organization: City of Urbandale Parks and Recreation

Mission Statement: Urbandale Parks and Recreation is


dedicated to helping residents and neighbors stay fit, active,
and healthy so everyone can enjoy the rich quality of life our
community has to offer.

Organization: Courage League Sports

Mission Statement: Courage League Sports is a non-profit


adaptive sports and recreational program that offers year-round
programming for children and adults who aren’t able to go full
speed due to a physical, cognitive or emotional disability. By
adapting the pace, equipment, or nature of an activity, Courage
League can provide a safe and accessible environment where
participants can go at their own speed.

are not limited to: Introduction to sports and sports leagues,
recreational activities, fitness, music and movement. Programs
are adapted and tailored to serve all ages and abilities. We work
with children and adults ages 2-82+.

Organization: Drake University

Mission Statement: To provide an exceptional learning

Mission Statement: Eastereseals Iowa provides exceptional


services to ensure that all people with disabilities or special

Mission Statement: The mission of the Iowa Girls High

Services

Mission Statement: “The Student Accessibility Services office


(SAS), formerly Student Disability Resources (SDR), at Iowa
State University is a unit in the Dean of Students Office that
supports students with disabilities related to the services and
programs that enable their access to education and university
life.
SAS believes that equity, social justice, and diversity are
essential to creating/maintaining an environment of equal

Mission Statement: Our Mission is to enhance the quality

Organization: One Heart Equestrian Therapy, Inc

Mission Statement: To make available equine-oriented and


domestic animal oriented activities in a compassionate, safe,
and professional manner for people and domestic animals used
in the program to achieve therapeutic and educational goals and
enhance the quality of life for people with physical, mental, and
psychological impairments.

Organization: Outlook Nebraska

Mission Statement: To positively impact everyone who is blind


or visually impaired.

Programs & Populations Served: We were founded in


early 2000 as a not-for-profit organization with just four blind
associates producing paper products, a clear vision for the
future and a determination to establish and foster a productive
blind and visually impaired workforce. As we grew we kept
learning, expanding and providing enriching opportunities for
our associates, clients and community. Today, we’re the largest
employer of the blind and visually impaired not just in Nebraska,
but a 7-state region. We continue to produce tissue and towel
products, along with hopes, dreams, accomplishments and
futures.

Organization: Project Healing Waters Fly Fishing

Mission Statement: Project Healing Waters Fly Fishing, Inc.


is dedicated to the physical and emotional rehabilitation of
disabled active military service personnel and disabled veterans
through fly fishing and associated activities including education
and outings.

Programs & Populations Served: The first program was


started at Walter Reed Army Medical Center in Washington, D.C.
in 2005. The official name was established in the fall of 2006,
and the organization was incorporated in Maryland in 2007.

PHWFF currently has 215 programs in the United States. Each


program is managed at the local level by volunteers who work
with Department of Veterans Affairs (DVA) facilities, Department
of Defense (DOD) military installations, Warrior Transition Units
(WTU) and other institutions. PHWFF has 21 geographic regions
throughout the United States.

Organization: Siouxland Adaptive Sports Inc

Mission Statement: The mission of SASI is to promote


physical fitness, general health and education as it pertains
to adaptive athletic participants. It will strive to educate the
community on the rewards and benefits children and adults with
disabilities receive while participating in organized sports. The
organization will help promote the advancement of adaptive
sports through financial support, education and events.

Programs & Populations Served: We serve the area of NW


Iowa, SW Minnesota and SE South Dakota. We offer a yearly
weekend sports clinic, a USA Hockey sled hockey team (The
Lightning) and we hope to be the organizing body for an Iowa
Track and Field team to participate in Jr Nationals. We serve
individuals with physical limitations that keep them from
participating in regular sports.

Organization: Special Olympics Iowa

Mission Statement: Provide year-round sports training and


athletic competitions for children and adults with intellectual
disability.

Programs & Populations Served: SOIA sponsor competitions


in 23 sports for all ability levels. We serve around 15000 athletes
and Unified Partners in Iowa. We run 150+ program events per
year.

Location: Grimes is the location of the State Office. We also


have 11 Areas that run local competitions.

Organization: Spina Bifida Association of Iowa

Mission Statement: To promote the prevention of Spina Bifida


and enhance the lives of all those affected.

Programs & Populations Served: The Spina Bifida Association


of Iowa provides direct service programs to assist Iowans with
Spina Bifida including an adaptive recreation reimbursement
program and a camp scholarship program.

Organization: SportAbility of Iowa

Mission Statement: SportAbility of Iowa is a 501(c)(3)


nonprofit organization founded January 1, 2010 that provides
ongoing sports and recreation programs to help people in the
local community with physical disabilities to enjoy an active
lifestyle. We collaborate with community partners, University
of Iowa, physical therapists, trainers, Veteran’s Administration,
coaches and volunteers to sponsor local competitive sports and
recreational activities.

Programs & Populations Served: SportAbility of Iowa (SAI)


seeks to empower individuals with physical disabilities in
Iowa through participation in inclusive sport and recreation
activities, while demonstrating to the community the importance
of acceptance and respect of diverse populations. SAI
currently sponsers a prep (13 and under) and varsity 14-18)
youth wheelchair competivie teams. SAI hosts an adapted
sports camp every summer to expose individuals inclusive
sports. Througout the year SAI particpates in 3v3 basketball
tournaments, PE takeovers, open gyms and collaborations
across the state of Iowa.

Organization: St. Ambrose University

Mission Statement: We offer you a stimulating and


comprehensive academic environment with unmatched

Organization: Team River Runner Des Moines

Mission Statement: To provide all veterans and their families


an opportunity to find health, healing, community purpose, and
new challenges through adventure and adaptive paddle sports!
51 chapters in 31 states!!

Programs & Populations Served: Team River Runner believes


that every wounded and disabled veteran deserves the
opportunity to embrace new challenges, invoke leadership, and
promote camaraderie. Team River Runner provides an outlet to
fulfill these beliefs – inviting wounded and disabled war veterans
and their families to participate in adaptive paddling programs.

Organization: Team RunFree

Mission Statement: Our adaptive running team enables those


with physical disabilities to experience the sights, sounds,
motion and excitement of running.

Programs & Populations Served: Our adaptive running serves


children and adults by using adaptive run carts to push them in
fun runs and races ranging from 5K up through marathons.

Organization: The HusomeStrong Foundation

Mission Statement: The HusomeStrong Foundation is a non-


profit charitable organization established to assist people who
have experienced the loss of a limb and are seeking assistance
to realize their full potential, and live their lives to the fullest after
amputation.

11 Recreation and Music Therapists who serve veterans in
various settings to include: Mental health, substance abuse
treatment, rehab, long term care and memory care. In addition
to these inpatient units, therapists also serve veterans who live
in the community with various disabilities, providing recreation
and leisure opportunities to improve their overall health and
wellness.
