Chapter 1

Mission and the Jesus-event

Introduction
As a followers of Jesus, we
see in him and his life the
model for participating in
God’s redemptive act.
Jesus is the content and
process of doing mission.
We do what he did, and do
as he did.
Lesson 1:
The incarnation as
God’s
Contextualization of
Himself
 Instruction:
1. Each group shares among themselves
about an instance or occasion where
they failed to understand somebody
because they did not go through that
person’s experience.
2. Each group comes up with insights
drawn from the sharing.
Inspired Word: John 1:1-5
In the beginning the Word already existed; the
Word was with God, and the Word was God. From
the very beginning the Word was with God.
Through him God made all things; not one thing
in all creation was made without him. The Word
was the source of life, and this life brought light to
people. The light shines in the darkness, and the
darkness have never put it out.
• Genesis creation story – God creates with
the power of his word (dabar).

• Jesus is God’s creative and powerful Word,

revealing God and redeeming humanity
“And the Word was made flesh and dwelt
among us”
Church Teaching
• The mystery of the Incarnation
• God’s vision/dream is for creation to attain
“fullness of life” (Jn. 10:10)
• Jesus’ life and ministry as the
concretization of God’s vision and mission
for creation
Missionary Response
As missionary, we ought to live the
incarnation by immersing ourselves in the life
of others through:
1. Exerting efforts to know others.
2. Helping others
3. Make a good contribution to our
communities
