Connected, but Alone?

Physically Together, but Mentally Elsewhere

By Alfonso, John Renz Lawrence O.

The world evolves. Everything unfolds.

The planet where humanities live is currently recognized as the digital world,
place of virtual reality, era of modernization or popularly called the 21st Century-
people become dependent from technology.

"Connected, but Alone?" I uttered.

Watching this video clip made me ponder about the effects of excessive exposure and
drown in social media and technological devices. It made me wonder about where this
gadgets will bring us and how technology affecting our lives in a ways that we are not
aware.

One of the best lines that made me trembled and flabbergasted is that when she
profoundly said the line... those little devices in our pockets are so psychologically
powerful that they not only change what we do. They change who we are.
Yes, I was in a total shock. Back then, I was so hyper and noisy but things change. I
became quiet and introvert. I do love playing outside, make friends, do crazy things,
and share camaraderie but now I used to be alone. Onetime, we do have reunion and it
excites me because we are going to see each other again. But I was gloomed and
desolated. Because although we are physically together, but we are mentally
elsewhere. Sometimes I feel that I am in a virtual world, well in fact I am in an actual
world.

Truly technology filtered and altered the way I used to be. I feel I am locked in a
box of technology where I cannot unlock, break the hindrances, and go beyond.

The TED talks offered a blink of light that I can use as the key to unclosed the
cage that I am in right now. Let us all be responsible and be a media literate to achive
desired version of ourselves.

"Now we all need to focus on the many many ways technology can lead us back,
to our real lives, our own bodies, our own communities, our own politics, our own
planet, they need us." -Sherry Turkle
