Essay.

1. How do you describe the Indigenous arts in the Philippines?


Indigenous arts in the Philippines has been known for being made with love and
patience, and a product of their culture and tradition with their skills and imaginative
minds. By that, they created such instruments like musical instruments made from
different kinds of materials like bamboo, sea shells, and even animal skins.

2. What makes Filipino arts distinct from other arts in the world?
There are different arts in the world, but the arts in the Philippines for me is the
most visible among them. Like the traditional or Indigenous arts, it is transparently
informative as it defines the different cultures with their different tribes under traditions.

3. If you are a Filipino artist, what kind of arts would you like to develop? Why?
I would like to develop a kind of art that represents the current situation we had
right now. Aside from it is relevant, it might generate ideas and solution on what we are
currently facing right now.

4. What is GAMABA Awards?


Gawad sa Manlilikhang Bayan Awards or GAMABA is an award that recognizes
indigenous artist with their artworks who remain loyal to their traditions. Managed by
NCCA or National Commission and the Arts through Gawad ng Bayan Committee, this
award made a way for indigenous artist to motivate them with their arts to preserve their
artistic heritage for the present and future generation.

5. Do you think that “Tattooing” as a form of art should be promoted? Why or Why not?
Yes it should be promoted. Why? In the means of tattooing, it can also convey
message by following good ethics just like other kinds of arts. Although it is somehow
dangerous as it inserts ink into your skin, still it lets you express your inner self,
interests, and beliefs without an actual conversation. Whang Od Oggay is the oldest
mambabatok or tattooist in the Philippines performing the ancient art of hand-tapped
tattoo.
