HISTORIOGRAPHY Academic Paper about EDSA

“Who controls the present controls the past. Who controls the past controls the
future” – George Orwell.

Man by nature is free. We are created to live in freedom and by any means, we should
fight for liberty and democracy, in any way possible. History have shaped our nation; what
we have and what we are right now is the product of the past that has inflicted a major
influence in our modern society.

EDSA People Power Revolution. A series of popular demonstrations in the

Philippines, mostly in Metro Manila from February 22-25, 1986. People unified for a civil
resistance against regime violence and electoral fraud. It was a non-violent revolution that
led to the ousting of the former President of the Republic of the Philippines, Ferdinand
Marcos after his 21 years of authoritarian presidential rule. The historic event was also
tagged as the “Yellow Revolution” due to the presence of yellow ribbons during
demonstrations following the assassination of Filipino Senator Benigno "Ninoy" Aquino,
Jr. in August 1983.

EDSA People Power Revolution marked a historic event that changed the lives of the
Filipinos. People helped one another to attain the freedom they deserved and successfully
obtained it. However, there were questions unanswered and confusions even after the end
of that event, was Marcos the only person to be blamed? Were there any other stories untold?
Did Cory Aquino deserved her title as the “Mother of Democracy” and others.
