What is Adobe InDesign?

 It’s a replacement of Adobe PageMaker.


 It’s a page-layout software.
 Publishing and Page Design beyond
boundaries.
 Used to create poster, flyers, brochures,
magazines, books & etc.

 It’s a cross with Adobe Illustrator, Photoshop


& Acrobat.
 From printing production to digital
publishing.
 Primarily used for layout rather than content-

 Release in August 1999.
 First release in Macintosh.

 Contains a workspace switcher, menus and other

 Contains tools for creating and editing images,

 Number of Pages
 Number of pages/total pages for the document.
 Facing Pages
 Make left and right pages face each other.
 Double-page Spread.
 Deselecting for stand alone page.

 Master Text Frame


 Create a text frame the size of the area within the margin
guides.
 Page Size
 Select a page size you want to use for the document.
 Letter, Legal, Tabloid, Letter-half, Legal-half and etc.
 Input a value for Width & Height.

Setting Up A Document

 Orientation
 Click the Portrait Icon(Tall) or Landscape Icon(Wide).
 Interacts dynamically with the dimensions in the page size.
 Height has larger value portrait icon is selected while if
width has the larger value the landscape icon is selected.
 Adobe InDesign uses default measuring unit pica(p0).
 Although, users may still input inches(in) abbreviation and
let Adobe InDesign automatically convert its value.

Setting Up A Document

 Bleed
 Used to align objects that you want to extend all the way
to the trim line of your document.
 Slug
 Used for special instructions to the printer, sign-off forms or
other information related to your documents.
 Not commonly use, especially when documents is
trimmed to its final page size.

Important Notes/Reminders:
 Check “OK” once you’re done with all the
document settings.
 For incorrect document formats/information it
can still be edited by simply clicking
File>Document Setup or simply holding
“CTRL + ATL + P”.

 The same tools used in Adobe Photoshop.


 Contains all the selection, drawing and viewing tools.
 Use to create, manipulate text and objects.
 If toolbox is missing, Click Window>Select Tools.
 Toolbox is divided into 4 categories each has different
functions.
 To access hidden tools. Click and Hold the mouse over
the small arrow in the bottom right corner.

GUIDES

 Are temporary horizontal and vertical lines helps


you produce page layout with mathematical
precision.
 Only exist on-screen to help your layout.
 It keeps all parts of your documents aligned
properly.
 Rulers must be shown in order to insert guides.

How to inserting Guides

 Place your pointer on the Horizontal or


Vertical ruler of your document.
 Click and Drag down onto the document
where you would like your guide to be.
 It would appear as a thin aqua line.
 To remove, simply drag it out of your
document.

“Snap to” Guide

 Snap to a Guide is similar to


“Magnetizing”.
 Once an image/object will be
drag to a guide, it will lock
into the place of the guide.
 Toggle the snapping off & on
by View > Grids and Guides >
Snap to Guides or Shift+CTRL+;

How to use the Text Tool?

 To insert text simply toggle or click Text Tool(T).


 Once you have your raw text, Click the Pointer
Tool/Selection Tool, it will change the text field
into a box which is called “Element”.
 Element contains object and text which is inside
of it .

 Using the “Selection tool” would let you


move the element anywhere in your page,
and by the help of “grippers” it will allow you
to adjust the width and length of your
element.

options.
 It would also allows users to create & mix
your own colours.
 If Color Palette window would appear
hidden or missing. Click Window>Color.

within the Swatches Palette.
 Two common color models: RGB & CMYK.
 Use RGB for your output be used in
computer or TV screen
 CYMK is used for printing documents.

 Open the Color Palette.


 It will depends on the color mode or profile
you’re currently using in your document.
(RGB /CMYK).
 In Mix hues, use the slider bar.
 Users can also add a custom color by
clicking “Add to Swatches”.

 Kinds of Object
 Text(Element) – A block of text within a defined
“Text Box”
 Image – A picture file.
 Graphic – Vector illustration created directly in
InDesign.

 InDesign is primarily a linking device.


 In inserting images save the image inside the
folder and link them into the document.
 If link palette is missing click Window>Links or
Shift+Ctrl+D.

Placing Image

 Place is the function used to insert an image


into your document.
 Once you place something in your
document it is “linked”.
 Store everything in the folder or location of
your document.

 Pointer Tool is selected.


 Go to File > Place.
 Select the file then hit
“OK”.
 Cursor will change into
a small grey picture box
that represents your
“unplaced” image.

 Switch to Pointer/Selection Tool to move the


object to the precise location.
 To resize, simply single-click the image > Click
Free Transformation Tool (E) and adjust using
the “Grippers”.
 To maintain the proportions and avoid the
image to pixellate, hold “Shift” in adjusting.

What is a PDF?

 Stands for Portable Document Format (PDF).


 It’s an excellent way to share page files
without matching fonts, application, reduce
large file size and cross platforms
compatibility. (MAC to PC).
 PDF contains original design in all aspects.

 Can be viewed and printed without the

 PDF files are compact nature.
 Files are compressed in a document.
 PDF are not fully editable.

Creating a PDF

1. Save your original file/document.


2. Go to File>Export>Adobe PDF.
3. A dialogue box will appear asking you to
save. In which you will save now the PDF.
4. Dialogue box will appear to adjust settings
from jpg quality in particular pages. Then hit
“Ok”
