The Story of Lut(a.s.

)
 Lut was sent to the people of Sadum(Or Sodom in English) to make dawah to them.
o He called them to tawhid and also he commanded them that tawhid was
through actions as well.
o The people of Lut suffered from homosexuality and not only that, but they
would rob the travelers and commit sins in their clubs. They were highly
perverted in their ways.
o Hayaa(Modesty/shame) is a branch of imaan. For both men and women.

And Isma'il and Elisha, and Jonas, and Lot: and to all We gave favour above the nations:
(Surah Al-An‘ am, 86)

 Ibrahim(a.s.) is visited by the three guests(angels), and being the noble, pious and
generous man he was, he slaughtered one of his healthiest and fattest calvs he,
roasted it, and served it to them.
o But they did not eat, and when they restrained, he became shocked and afraid.
So, he became suspicious of them.
o They said “Do not fear, we are messengers of Allah sent to the people of Lut.”
o When Sara(a.s.) heard they had been sent to punish the people of Lut, she
laughed out of rejoice.
o They gave her the glad-tidings of Ishaaq and his son Ya’qub to come.
o She slapped her face out of shock and said, How am I to have a child when I am
an old woman and my husband is old? This is strange news!”
o They said, “Do you wonder at the decree of Allah? The mercy of Allah and His
blessings be on you oh family of Ibrahim. Surely, He Allah is All-Praised and All-
Glorious.”

 Ibrahim(a.s.) after the fear had gone and glad-tidings had reached him, he began to
plead with the angels about the people of Lut:
o Because Lut is still there and he though the punishment may even destroy him.
o Also, because of his merciful nature he wanted to ask for more time for them
that maybe they would change their ways.
o The angels replied, “Oh Ibrahim, leave this matter alone, the order of your Lord
has already been revealed. And verily, there will come a torment for them that
cannot be turned back.”

 So, they carried on to the city of Lut, and they were three young, extremely handsome
men.
o The first to see them were the daughters of Lut(a.s.). They became worried for
the men and rushed back home to tell their father that three young,
handsome, men are entering the city.
o Lut(a.s.) rushed to go greet them and urge them to be his guests because he
knew what immediate danger they would be in.
o As Lut was walking them to his home, he turns to them and says, “I swear by
Allah, I don’t know of anyone on the face of the earth who are more evil then
these people.” He said this three or four times. This was an attempt by him to
scare them away from the city so they just leave and don’t try to stay with
anyone else.
o The angels stayed quiet because they were given instructions by Allah that you
do not destroy the people Lut until you receive the witness of their Nabi
against them.

 Lut(a.s.) sees that they are not getting the point, he was feeling extremely
uncomfortable and grieved by the situation.
o Then he took them into his house and closed the door. Nobody saw them.
o However, Lut’s wife(who was a kafir), had joined the ranks of the people of the
town and told them that Lut(a.s.) has three extremely handsome guests. She
was collaborating with the
o The news spread and masses of people began to crowd outside of the house of
Lut(a.s.) rejoicing at what they heard. It was growing and growing with people
yelling and celebrating.
o Allah says, “Verily by your life, they are in their wild intoxication, wandering
blindly.” They were intoxicated by their lust. They were worse than animals.
o Lut came out and his people came rushing to him, Lut tells them, “Verily these
are my guests. Do not shame me, and fear Allah. Do not disgrace me!”
o They responded, “Lut, didn’t we prohibit you from hosting any guests?!” By
way of their corrupt lusts they attempted to put corrupt restrictions on Lut.
o He said, “Here are my daughters, marry them instead!” Meaning the women of
the town.
o They said “We don’t want them, you know what we want.” We want your
guests.
o Lut said, “This is a distressful day!” “Ha dhaa yaomun aseem”
o In that critical moment and moment of distress, Lut said, “If only I had a source
of power to lean on!”
o In that moment of desperation and a split second before they broke down the
door of Lut(a.s.), the angels finally spoke!!!
o The angels said, “Oh Lut! We are the messengers of Allah! Do not fear, and
they will not reach you!”
o They said, “Leave with your family in the darkness of the night, and none of
you look back, except your wife.” She will be punished with the same
punishment as them.”
o Their appointed time is in the morning, isn’t morning soon?
 When Lut left with his family under the darkness of the night, and he was gone from
the city of sadum,
o Early In the morning during sunrise, the people of Sadum were caught with a
deafening shriek, an awful cry that was so loud it caused shaking.
o Then Jibreel(a.s.) who was one of the three angels, was commanded to take his
angelic form with 600 wings, with the tip of his wing, scraped up the people of
Lut, raised them up, turn them upside down and smashed them down to
Earth.
o Then stones of baked clay rained own upon them.
o “Surely, in this are signs for those who see.”
