Home Economics in the
Philippines is greatly influenced
by home economist abroad, it is
beneficial to have a glimpse of
the struggles of the founders so
that we can appreciate what it is
today and plan for the future in
the Philippine setting.
Aristotle believes that a management of the
household is necessary and useful for the family
and state. It is an element of becoming high and
having a good life. A family wants to acquire
properties and to learn the part of managing the
household for no one can live well unless the
necessary equipment and property are made
available.
Each member should also be considered
as a partner for the improvement of the
state.

The Political Moral Model
Concerns and ideas about what life in the society
ought to be moral concerns. Thus political
concepts of what ought to be are political oral
concerns. For instance, democracy and freedom
or political concept contains more ideas. How
the structure and conditions of society affect the
lives of person are political- moral ones. If a
member of a family is sick with cancer due to
chemical or nuclear pollution, the issue becomes
political-moral.
DEVELOPMENTAL
MODEL
The developmental model defines development not
only as the fulfillment of economic, material
needs. Development implies the building of values
that will sustain respect and trust among family
members to allow their potentials to unfold. It
implies freedom from harassment in any form-
psychological, physical and sexual. It is educating
conditions to free them from the shackles of
poverty and inhuman condition of living.
Development creates changes in lifestyles which
results to breakdown of traditional values within
the family and the neighborhood. Improved
technology and communication have introduced
foreign influences that challenge our traditional
family values.
Appropriate technology ensures that the
introduction of employment-creating technology in
the country side does not harm the balance in
favor of the city.
Ultimately, it develops a vigorous, indigenous
private entrepreneurial class.
The practice in home economics of introducing
laboratory projects without considering market
demands should be put to an end. Home
economics educators should investigate the
availability and quality of raw materials to develop
new products and processes.
