Apakah Manajemen Adalah Sains?

Science is an organized knowledge to define and answer phenomenon using
scientific methods (analytic, repeatable and changeable). Management, can be considered
as science and art, has responsible functionally to manage resource carefully. Firstly,
Management as science itself has been grounded by several point of views regarding to
applied resource, static and dynamic, which could help to understand the phenomenon of
management in certain place and time. Besides, science management has correlation with
sociology because the main focus itself is related to human, dominant factor to provide
organizational activity, and could be considered as social science because that could be
learned and explored by every human as social beings. Secondly, management as art, in
addition, has uniqueness to respond problem which depends on their belief, assumption
and interest and SSM (Soft System Methodology) is a suitable approach for humans’
uniqueness. Therefore, optimalization and combination between management as science
and art could yield efficient and effective application of management in firms.
In context of Indonesia, western management has dominated almost in every facet
of life instead of eastern. Industry revolution in England had initiated the rise of structural
management that has significant role in civilization especially developing the economic
condition of country which can be key driver of a country economic success. Moreover,
management education contributes to find ways by conducting basic or practical research
in order to be adaptive towards changeable condition both local or global. However,
management education globally is facing noticeable obstacles, such as to keep in balance
the incresing demand with the quality itself, and to adapt with organization needs in the
future. Curriculum component in School of Management is more scientific, when School
of Business is more practical science.
