Our Mission: To put Christian principles into practice through programs that

build healthy spirit, mind, and body for all.

Four to five times a week, Laurie Horn

walks a mile from Aultercare to come
visit the Towpath Trail YMCA. Laurie
has been a member of the YMCA
since she was just a young girl,
participating in swimming,
gymnastics, ballet, running, and,
eventually, working for the North
Canton YMCA in nearly every
department. Her love for athletics led
her towards competition, running
nearly 21 marathons and even
qualifying for the Boston Marathon.
Despite these great achievements,
Laurie’s life hasn’t been easy. In fact,
things have been a series of battles,
struggling with both bipolar disorder
and anorexia, finding solace though
her running. Read on...
This unique 5K (3.1 mile) Run/Walk and 1 Mile Fun Run
is focused less on speed and more on positively
IMPACTING OUR COMMUNITY with friends & family to
raise awareness of two charitable causes! Community
members of all different ages, shapes, sizes, and
speeds are welcome! All proceeds from this event will
be split evenly between the Zaren Berry family and the
YMCA Annual Campaign.

The run will be held on Saturday, June 8, 2019 and

starting at 10:00 A.M. at the MASSILLON FAMILY
YMCA.

Diagnosed w ith Spina Bifida, Hydrocephalus, and Chiari Malformation Type II, Zaren had
his first surgery at just 17 hours old to close a lesion on his back. Eight days later, he
received his first VP shunt to drain the fluid off his brain. Then, after falling ill w ith stridor
in August, his older brother, Zahnii, noticed that he stopped breathing completely. At
Akron Children’s Hospital, doctors found that his breathing rate w as a shockingly low 10
breaths per minute.
After having a Chiari decompression procedure to make room for his brain, doctors w ere
able to increase his breathing rate. After his 21-day stay, he developed breath-holding
tendencies w here he w ould cry, stop breathing, go unconscious, and turn blue.
In total, Zaren has had 9 surgeries, but that hasn’t stopped him from being one of the
happiest babies ever. Having developmental delays in nearly every area, he is unable to
stand or w alk on his ow n, but his family has faith that he w ill get better w ith time. W ith
a remarkable story and an even more outstanding attitude, Zaren Berry is truly an All-
Star.

Perfect for everybody and every body! Each Zumba® class is designed to
bring people together to sweat it on. We take the "work" out of workout, by
mixing low-intensity and high-intensity moves for an interval-style, calorie-
burning dance fitness party. Once the Latin and World rhythms take over,
you'll see why Zumba® Fitness classes are often called exercise in disguise.
Super effective? Check. Super fun? Check and check. A total workout,
combining all elements of fitness – cardio, muscle conditioning, balance and
flexibility, boosted energy and a serious dose of awesome each time you leave
class.

Perfect for active older adults who are looking for a modified Zumba® class
that recreates the original moves you love at a lower-intensity. The design of
the class introduces easy-to-follow Zumba® choreography that focuses on
balance, range of motion and coordination. Come ready to sweat, and prepare
to leave empowered and feeling strong. Class focuses on all elements of
fitness: cardiovascular, muscular conditioning, flexibility and balance!

NEW to our area! STRONG by Zumba® combines body weight, muscle

conditioning, cardio and plyometric training moves synced to original music
that has been specifically designed to match every single move. Every squat,
every lunge, every burpee is driven by the music, helping you make it to that
last rep, and maybe even five more. In each class you'll burn calories
while toning arms, legs, abs and glutes. Plyometric or explosive moves like high
knees, burpees, and jumping jacks are interchanged with isometric moves
like lunges, squats, and kickboxing. STRONG by Zumba® instructors change
up the music and moves frequently to make sure you’re always challenged to
the max.
