1.

How has your understanding of the relationship between assessment and

instruction been affected by this experience?

I have learned how important it is that we prepare our students for assessment through
instruction. We should be planning thoughtful and meaningful lessons for our students
benefit. I have learned through this experience that it is difficult to plan lessons but so
important because if we do not plan meaningful lessons then our students will not
understand the concepts needed for the assessment.

2. Tell about the progress of your students. Was there progress? Why, or why
not? Please spend more effort reflecting on your growth as a teacher and less
effort on explaining outside factors. What might you do differently if you could
do this again?

While I was only in the schools for a couple weeks, I did see progress with the students I
worked with. Both students I worked with struggled with distinguishing between the
letters “b” and “d”. I did multiple activities with the students to help them learn the
differences between sounds and sight to help them. I saw progress especially in the boy as
he was able to self correct and do better on the assessment later than he had done the
previous time. I would probably try and do more hands on, fun activities to help engage
the students more, as they seemed a little bored.

3. How have you improved as a teacher because of this experience?

I think I have improved as a teacher because I had to learn how to personalize a lesson. I
think that this was important to look and see where the child was in their learning and
how I can use both their strengths and weaknesses to help plan a lesson to encourage
their abilities and help them grow. I will continue to try and plan lessons around the child
and what I know about them.

4. Set a specific goal in an area you would like to improve. Tell which area of the
Danielson Framework the goal relates to and why you have chosen this goal.
Refer to this link for Danielson Framework info.

One area I would like to work on is managing student behavior. This is one area I have
struggled with in the past because I have been nervous about speaking up and not being
thought of as “mean”. I have improved this skill over the past few years but it is something
that I hope I can continue to grow and become better at enforcing in my classroom.
