Layout:
Layout is a plan which shows arrangement of different instruments/models in a
particular lab.
This machine is manufactured by Small Denison & Son LTD ( Leeds England). It’s
operation is based on electrical hydraulic system. It has maximum capacity of 50 Tons.It can
perform tension, compression and bending tests. It has four scales of 5,10,25 and 50 tons.
3: 500 kN Shimadzu Universal Testing Machine:
a) Fixed Head
b) Twisting Head
5: Charpy Impact Testing Machine:
Instruments:
1. Screw gauge
2. Vernier caliper
3. Inside gauge
4. Spring divider
5. Outside gauge # 1
6. Outside gauge # 2
7. Deflection gauge
8. Extensometer
1: Screw gauge:
Screw gauge is used to calculate outer diameter more precisely than vernier caliper. It
can also be used to calculate length of any object less than 25mm.It has range of 25mm and L.C
of 0.01 mm.. It has two type of scales namely
2: Vernier Caliper:
It is used to calculate length, outer diameter, inside diameter and depth of any object. It
has least count of 0.05mm and 1/128 inch.It has two types of scales.
a) Main scale
b) Vernier scale
3: Inside Gauge:
It is used to calculate inside diameter of any object e.g.beaker.It has no scale and no
least count.
4: Spring Divider:
It is used to divide length of any object in known number of lines and to calculate
lengths. It is used to measure extension in steel bars.
It is used to calculate outside diameter of any object. It has maximum range of 13cm
and no least count.
6: Outside Gauge #2:
It is used to calculate outside diameter of any object and having least count of 0.0025
inch. The range of scale is 1inch.
7: Deflection Gauge:
8: Extensometer:
It is also known as Baty’s extensometer. It is used to measure extension in steel bars and
to perform tension tests on steel strands. It has least count of 0.001mm and range of 25mm or
1inch. It has two scales one is large other one is small.Physically small scale is actually large
magnitude wise and vice versa. One revolution on large scale is equal to one division on small
scale. The latest one is Shimadzu Extensometer.
