2019 has ushered in real changes in Brussels. A more diverse Parliament has been sworn in and a
radically redesigned and more proactive Commission soon begins work. It is essential for any business to
understand the changes, how they will affect their business and how they can exert their influence in
Brussels.
Rud Pedersen Public Affairs Brussels invites you to attend our one-day training on public affairs for the
European Institutions. Attendees will learn:

How to monitor, understand and influence events in Brussels
Programme
The programme for the day will be led by our experts from the Brussels office. It has been designed to
demystify the European Institutions and ensure attendees emerge with actionable insight and practical
tools to follow and engage with developments in Brussels.
13:00-14:00 - Lunch
Hans Martens Hans was CEO of one of Brussels' leading think tanks, the European Policy
Centre. He will explain how business can ally with think tanks to contribute
proactively and positively with policymakers and others in the Brussels milieu
using an evidence-based footing.
Kaat Detré, John and Kaat bring their combined experience in digital advocacy campaigns
John McLean and media-driven public affairs. This will be a practical discussion on what can
be achieved online, and how you can use digital and media levers to follow
and influence Brussels from afar.

Speaker profiles
Martin has more than a decade of experience in working with a variety of complex regulatory issues and working
with the political institutions in the European capital. He was director for International Affairs in the Ministry of
Business and Growth before he settled in Brussels.
Following this, he was responsible for negotiating the financial services files as well as overseeing the internal
market and trade files during the Danish Presidency of the European Union in 2012.
When he retired from that post in 2013, Hans continued chairing the think tank's health programme and began
working on a number of projects related to sustainable health systems and on European dimensions of energy
policy.
He started his Brussels life as an advisor for an Italian Member of the European Parliament belonging to the
S&D Group.
John holds a BA in Liberal Arts and History from Queen’s University Belfast and a MA in Public Policy from
Central European University.
Kaat holds a Master’s Degree in Political Science and Government with Distinction from Université libre de
Bruxelles, where she was Head of the Model United Nations Project. She also holds both a Bachelor's Degree in
History and a Master’s Degree in Modern History from the University of Leuven
At VoteWatch Europe, Simona worked as Research and Communication Assistant and gained insight on food
regulation, trade, environmental and economic policies.
Simona holds a BA in Political Science and International Relations, an MA in European Public Affairs
from Maastricht University, and an Executive Program in Lobbying and Institutional Relations from LUISS Guido
Carli University.
