UNIT 1

The UPD NSTP Common Module: Tatak UP!

Course Title: Service to the Nation through Empowerment and Servant/Participatory


Leadership

Course Code: NSTP (Common Module)

Course Description:

The course sets the basic framework of service to the Filipino people and the
community as the basis for all NSTP courses. It emphasizes the UP values of honor,
excellence and service to the nation/people, while embodying the topics prescribed by the
NSTP IRR of 2009 – namely, NSTP Orientation, Citizenship Training, Drug Education, Disaster
Awareness, Preparedness and Management, Environmental Protection and other National
Concerns.

Course Objectives:

1. To establish an NSTP framework that is anchored to the university’s goal of academic


excellence, honor and service to the Filipino nation through community service,
organizing and development.
2. To give an overview and understanding of Philippine history and condition.
3. To impart basic competencies in community service including disaster awareness
and preparedness, environmental care, and citizenship training necessary to serve
the AFP Reserve Force (for ROTC graduates) and the National Service Corps or NSRC
(for CWTS and LTS graduates).

Course Duration: Minimum of 25 hours

Unit 1 Activities and Guidelines

Course handler will facilitate Topics 1 & 10, as well as monitor activities from Topics 2 to 9.

Each group may acquire an external resource speaker based on their assigned topics, for
reasons of validation, safety, and other concerns.

Duration: varies per topic, including presentation & summary; not to exceed 25 hours total

This NSTP (Common Module) shall continue on as Civic Welfare Training Service (CWTS).

UNIT 2

CWTS 1&2: Cultural Heritage Work for Community Development

The NSTP common module aims to impart basic competencies in community service,
which for this class shall move on as Civic Welfare Training Service (CWTS)–

“… refers to the Program component or activities contributory to the general welfare


and the betterment of life for the members of the community or the enhancement
of its facilities, especially those devoted to improving health, education,
environment, entrepreneurship, safety, recreation and moral of the citizenry and
other social welfare services;” (Sec. 3d., Rule II, IRR of the NSTP or R.A. 9163)

In recognizing one of the advocacies of the National Commission for Culture and the
Arts (NCCA) “to preserve and integrate traditional culture and its various creative
expressions as a dynamic part of the national cultural mainstream…” (Sec. VII, History and
Mandate, NCCA), the CWTS program of UPDEPP has been servinglocal community-
basedprojects on traditional arts, culture and heritage since NSTP was introduced to the
unit. UPDEPP has partnered with non-government organizations particularly on activities
that preserve and promote local culture, such as those pertaining to local language,
literature, arts and crafts, as well as festivals and related events.

Unit 2 Activities and Guidelines

Students are required to participate in volunteer work, following the aforementioned theme
of the CWTS section of this class, that extend the UPD NSTP community service to nearby
areas of UPDEPP in Clark Field, Pampanga.

The nature and extent of volunteer work is according to available tasks needed by the
partner institution, and if necessary, it shall be supplemented with additional training by the
institution and/or course handler.

All students should submit accomplished NSTP Waiver Form prior to community service
work. Also, for group insurance, please submit name, birthdate, level/section and
beneficiary soonest to faculty.

Scope of community service (chosen per group): community museum work (local museums
or independent museums by private parties), public murals and related tasks, community
theater volunteer work, community shelters (orphanages, impoverished areas, etc.) arts and
crafts training.

Duration: 55 hours for community service, may be translated to 5 hours/day x 11 days;


students may start on July 1 to July 15, 2016, am or pm, until needed hours are fulfilled;

5 hours for Culminating Activity (Evaluation and Assessment) on July 16, 2016 (if any)

Vicinity: Angeles City, (Mabalacat and other municipalities of Region III provinces if
applicable, amenable to course handler).

Sample Venues: Angeles City- Museo ning Angeles (Brgy. Sto. Rosario), Teatro Angeleno
(Brgy. Malabanas), Bale Anghel (Brgy. Sto. Rosario), Bale-Balayan (Brgy. Sta. Teresita), etc.

Grading System (Unit 2): Partner Institution Evaluation 30%
