in Tumandok folk in Tapaz. Capiz. Philippines. there were adult females. who were treated like a princess.

They are known to be the binukot. After seeing the docudrama of "Huling Prinsesa" . I was shock that the
real princess exist in the mountain of Capiz Phillippines and afford to hold a princess.

The Binukot term was derived from bukot which means “to keep” . Binukot was non allowed to travel
outside the house because of the sunlight and her foods deliver to her and help her to eat, make up for
her self like brushing his hair. and the only thing she do was memories and sing different heroic poems.
The binukot was allowed to go outside when she needs to attend for some special occasions like
wedding and ritual and to be carried on a cradle so that she can avoid from wounds and dirt. The Binukot
was thaught to dance they called it "Binanog" means Malayang Agila (free Eagle) and sings heroic poems
thats the only things she do everyday was memories it and Binukot was the best of all their neighbor
when it comes to dance and sings. The Binukot was allowed to perform in occasions like wedding.

its hard to imagine the situitions of the Binukot because for me they like a prisoners. they cant walk,
bathfrom themselves, cant do anything except from singing and dance and Binukot always needs
someone to help her for everything. When the World War II tragedy came from their village Binukot was
the first victim because they cant run fast. after that incidents parents are afraid their daughter to be
Binukot. that tragedy really gets them thats why being the last princess in their village.

At present there are still few binukot on some portion of Panay Island. But the danger of losing this
tradition is really high. for most adult females of Panay preferred to be an ordinary citizen alternatively of
going a princess. Narratives of princess were portion of our childhood memories. We dream of going one
during those times. But in Tumandok folk in Tapaz. Capiz. Philippines. there were adult females. who
were treated like a princess. They are known to be the binukot.

The trip to the distant mountains of Capiz is tough — an hours-long bike drive and several hours more of
trekking across rivers and up and down bouldery. slippery slopes. It is a ambitious effort for anyone who
wants to see and research a cryptic tradition preserved for decennaries among some of the mountains
stray communities. The trip took some clip and I thought it’s worth the delay merely to see the ‘Last
Princess’ . from the trip entirely. it made me truly funny of what will princess expression like. I-Witness
travels to the Tapaz Mountain. considered the farthest in Capiz. located in the cardinal Philippines island
of Panay. The mountain people called the tumandoks live in Tapaz. and I-Witness searched for the tribe’s
last leftover princesses called the binukots.

Reporter Kara David reaches the community of Rizal Sur. a small town that looks merely like any other
stray community. where the tumandoks life in traditional huts and survive on whatever nature provides
them. In the thick of this community. she meets one of the last leftover binukots. 73-year-old Lola
( grandma ) Isiang.
Lola Isiang lives in an old hut. merely like everybody else in the community. However. she has stayed
inside a room in the house of all time since she was five old ages old. life in isolation as the family’s
chosen binukot
