Scaffolded Assignment Template

Introduction:

Introduce and describe the main characters and supporting characters. Set the scene and
link to the main body…
Who is in the story? How old are they? What do they look like? How do they know the other
characters? What do we need to know about them?
Where is the story set? When is the story set? Describe what it looks like.

Main Body:

Continue setting the scene and set the scenario. What is happening? Who is involved? Why
is it happening?
What are the characters doing?
Where are they going?
What are they saying?

Twist/Conflict:

Something unexpected happens. This might be a sudden change in a character’s actions or


personality. Maybe they were hiding their true self in the introduction and main body. Try and
catch the reader off guard and break stereotypes…
What has happened?
How do the characters react?
Where is the story heading next?
Make the twist sudden and surprise the reader!
Conclusion:

The ending to the story, can be ended quite abruptly. A twist has just occurred, how has that
impacted the characters? Maybe the really mean person/monster has actually just saved
someone’s life. Maybe the person/monster has just ended someone’s life or put them in
danger…
How did the twist effect the characters and the plot?
How did it end?
Is there a cliff-hanger?
