Read the poem out loud and tell the
children to follow along in their books. Play
Track 18, and tell the children to number
the pictures.
Play Track 18 again and tell the children to
say the poem with the CD.

words from the poem.
Ask the children to name the items
pictured. Then, have them complete the
puzzle with the corresponding vocabulary.

complete the letter.
Tell the children to look at the code.
Point out that each picture corresponds
to a letter of the alphabet.

4 Use the code to write a letter
to Santa.
Tell the children to write a personal letter
to Santa, using the code. Make sure they
leave a blank line below the symbols.
Divide the class into pairs. Ask them to
exchange letters with a classmate and
decode them. Tell them to write out the
decoded words and then return the letters.
Finally, give out envelopes. Tell the children
to address their envelope as follows:
To: Santa Claus
Christmas Village
North Pole
If they wish, the children can post their
letters.
5 Make a handprint
Christmas tree.
Materials: green card (1 large sheet per
child), pencils, glue, brown card, paints,
coloured felt tip pens or crayons,
Christmas decorations templates page 87.
Preparation: Cut brown paper into
rectangles for the tree trunk (approx. 15 x 25
cm, 1 per child).
Tell the children to trace their hand with
a pencil ten times on green card. Have
them cut out the handprints.
Distribute the tree trunks. Tell the children
to overlap and glue four of their green
handprints in a row along the bottom
part of the trunk with the fingers pointing
down. Above that, they glue a row of
three handprints, and above that, a row
of two. Finally, they glue a single handprint
at the top of the tree.
Tell the children to colour and cut out the
ornaments on page 5 and glue them onto
their tree to decorate it.

children join in with the song when they are
able. Then teach gestures to accompany the
song. Divide the class into three groups and
assign a verse to each one.
Play Track 20 again and tell the children to
act out their verse as they sing.
2 Colour and say where the
eggs are.
Tell the children to look at activity 2, and
ask them to count the eggs. Ask: How many
eggs can you see? (Seven.) Tell the children
to colour the picture. When they have
finished, ask them to point to the eggs and
describe where they are: There’s an egg
behind the television. There’s an egg on the
sofa…
Ask individual children to describe their
picture in more detail: What colour is the
egg on the sofa in your picture, (Oscar)?
What colour is the egg under the table?

3 Make an Easter Bunny mask.
Materials: white paper plates (1 per child),
cotton wool balls, elastic, hole punch,
templates page 11.
Preparation: Cut the elastic into appropriate
lengths to hold the masks onto the
childrens’ heads. Punch two holes in the
sides of each plate and tie the elastic to
each hole so that the plate can be used as
a mask.
Tell the children to cut out the bunny parts
on page 11 and glue them onto the plate
as shown in the photo to make an Easter
Bunny mask. Help them to cut out the
circles for the eyes (through the plate) so
that they can see.
Tell the children to glue cotton wool balls
along the outer edge of each ear. Help each
child to adjust the elastic on his/her mask so
that it fits snugly but comfortably on his/her
face. Then encourage the children to hop
around the room like bunnies.
