Prologue

B ramblestar gazed up at the starry sky, his clanmates

breathed softly in their dens beneath him. Alderheart walked up

to the Highledge and Bramblestar softly whispered. “Have you
heard anything about the strange cat that appeared in Mistystar’s
dream?”
“No,” replied Alderheart, lowering and shaking his head.
Bramblestar sighed. Something is going to come and we don’t have any
clue.
“It seems Starclan has taken matters into their own paws.”
“Yes,” Alderheart sighed gazing at the sky with sightless,
cloudy blue eyes. Bramblestar looked up with him and then felt a
prickle in his spine. Alderheart was gazing, with wide eyes, and a
starry cat appeared.
The cat had warm green eyes and a ginger pelt, faintly striped
with dark tabby stripes. “Firestar!” Bramblestar exclaimed running
to greet his old leader. “Do you have something to tell us about
the strange cat that Mistystar saw in her dream?”
“No, because you have all the answers at your claw tips,”
Firestar rumbled glancing at Alderheart with a smile then turned
back to Bramblestar. “It’s something else. A prophecy.”
“A prophecy?!” Bramblestar gaped and then composed
himself as Firestar began to speak.
Destiny is not always what one cat thinks it is.
They can run away from it but never escape from it's grasp.
A lion pelt cat will come, running from fate with a rainy storm
behind him.
On wings of a crow’s friend does a tempest fly.
A foxes fur shall question fate for answers of a long lost past. Like
the willow tree shall save all that has gone wrong.
As a blade of grass does one cat come and an arrow pierces the pelt
of destiny.
They shall go west to face the cat that has turned.
And either all is lost or all is found.
Bramblestar trembled at the thought of his clan falling.
Firestar started back to the starry night sky, streaked with the pink
roses of sunrise. “Don’t go” shouted Bramblestar.
“I must get back to Starclan before sunrise or Bluestar will
worry,” explained Firestar. He padded off, slowly fading as the sun
rose.
“Do you have any idea which cats this might be about?”
Bramblestar turned to Alderheart. Alderheart shook his head then
shrugged.
“They might not even be in our clan. The crow’s friend
might be Crowfeather and the lion’s pelt cat might be Lionblaze
but other than that I have no clue,” Alderheart reported then
jumped off the Highledge. “Don’t let is get to you too much.
Prophecy’s happen, they aren’t made happen. Sometimes they
have double meanings. The prophecy may not be for us but that
we are to help the chosen cats along they’re way.”
***
Alderheart padded away to his den. The cat he saw in his and
Mistystar’s dream was on his mind again. It was a silver tabby
she-cat. Who was that? Mistystar must have known because she
greeted the cat like an old friend. I’ll ask Mothwing when I see her at the
Moonpool tonight. He began sorting herbs and sighed. This
prophecy is so cryptic it almost seems fake but the Starclan cats must
know what it is. They can for see our fates. The fate of a certain cat is
running away from.
Chapter 1

T awny awoke with a start. Her dreams had been filled

with cryptic prophecies and strange starry furred cats. “Here

Tawny.”
Her housefolk called. “Here is your breakfast!” Tawny yawned and
stretched then padded over to her food bowl. Her housefolk had
filled it with fish flavored food that looked like clumped dirt. She
ate greedily and then walked out her cat flap to her garden.
It smelled like rain and puddles had formed in cracks around
the stone patio. She lapped it up then took a dash around her
yard. It was surrounded by a picket fence and she leapt on top of it
easily.
Before her was the stables and grazing grounds where the
horses would be ridden by her housefolk and then taken to the
stables for her housefolk to untack them and put them in their
stalls. She breathed in deeply and then sprinted to the barn.
The barn was inhabited by two cats. Coriander was a
tortoiseshell she-cat with pretty amber eyes. Smoky, on the other
hand, was a gray tabby with dark stripes they almost looked black.
Coriander and Smoky were there grooming their fur. Smoky
looked up and greeted Tawny. Coriander looked over her
shoulder and Tawny spotted two kits. “You gave birth!” Tawny
exclaimed happily. Coriander purred happily and then licked one
of the kits. “What are their names?” asked Tawny, flicking her
ears.
“Arrow and Willow,” replied Coriander indicating the
tortoiseshell tom and tortoiseshell and white she-cat. Tawny
gazed down at the kits. The tom had grass green eyes and the she-
cat had gold amber. “They are beautiful!” Tawny purred. Smoky
walked up to her.
“How have you been?” Smoky asked.
“I’m fine,” Tawny replied. “My housefolk have treated me
well. Do you have any more tales of the clan cats?”
“You’re always so interested in them!” Smoky pointed out.
“Why don’t you find out about them yourself.”
“B-but,” Tawny stuttered then sighed. “I guess you’re right.
What if they attack me?”
“You’ll be fine as long as you don’t seem hostile,” Smoky
concluded then shooed her off. “Go on! If you go now you might
be back by noon for your lunch!” Tawny padded off into damp
territory. How will the clan cats treat me? Tawny wondered.
Tawny had met the clan cats once. When Daisy, a loner who
had gone to Thunderclan because she didn’t want her kits to be
taken away by the housefolk, came here. Tawny had watched
from afar, intrigued by the cats leafy scent.
The cat was lean, with muscles rippling beneath his fur when
he walked. He had amber eyes with brown tabby fur and a
striking gaze. Tawny wondered if she’d meet that cat or some
other cat like him.
Soon the reeds were beneath her paws as she padded through
the marshy swamp territory of what Smoky called Riverclan.
Strange cat scent that smelled fishy like her food but pungent like
grass and minerals. Tawny tasted the air cautiously, then padded
onward. I hear nothing, see nothing, smell nothing. I’m perfectly fine!
I wonder what the other clans are like. And what is this so called
Riverclan?
Suddenly she heard something. Like reigns being lashed. A
branch snapping?! She glanced around but didn’t spot anything.
Cautiously, she padded forward and was met with a petrifying
blue eyed stare. A cat! Tawny leapt back as the cat pounced right
where she used to be.
He was a gray blue tom with pale gray tabby stripes. His
claws scraped the ground as he scrambled after her. Tawny
sprinted as she heard paws pounding behind her. Mustering her
courage she turned and unsheathed her claws, lunging at her
pursuer. Her claws connected with his jaw and he retaliated. “Get
off Riverclan territory, rogue!” He spat lunging at her. She ducked
clumsily feeling a searing pain in her ears at his claws scraped
them.
“I’m not here to cause any trouble!” she yelped as she felt his
claws swipe over her muzzle. “I came to explore!”
“EXPLORE!!!” the cat screamed and exploded at her. “You
came to hunt and take our food when you have plenty at your
twoleg place. Go away rogue.” He pinned her down and raised his
claws to slash her throat. This is it! I am so stupid.
“Puddlepaw!” shouted someone from the bushes and two cats
walked out. One what jet black with amber eyes and the other was
a gray blue with ice blue eyes. The black one curled his lips in
disgust. “A warrior does not need to kill to win a battle!”
“Sorry, Reedwhisker,” Puddlepaw replied, crestfallen. He
padded to Reedwhisker. The gray cat walked up to her and sniffed
her. Tawny stood paralyzed, scared that the cat would finish what
Puddlepaw started. “Puddlepaw this is a kittypet, not a rogue!”
“She doesn’t have a collar, Mistystar!” Puddlepaw protested
but Reedwhisker silenced him.
“However, you are right about one thing. What are you
doing on our territory?”
“A cat named Smoky would tell me stories about the clans
and today when I asked him for a story he told me to go find out
for myself.” Tawny explained hastily. Mistystar looked at her then
purred.
“She isn’t doing anything wrong, Puddlepaw. What’s your
name?” Mistystar asked smiling.
“T-tawny,” Tawny replied, stuttering and startled by her
sudden kindness.
“That is a great name!” Mistystar exclaimed. “You sure are
tawny.” Tawny giggled. Many cats who first met her would point
that out. She was indeed tawny, her fur the color of dusty sand.
“She looks like a Lionclan cat but without the mane!”
Puddlepaw exclaimed excitedly. “Is she secretly a cub?”
“No,” Reedwhisker scolded smirking. “A Lionclan cub would
be my size with the muscles of Tigerstar.”
“You mean that evil Dark Forest piece of fox dung?!” he
asked and shivered. “I’m glad he’s not alive or dead! He’s gone.”
“What is Lionclan and who is Tigerstar?”
“Lionclan is an old ancient clan that lived in the old forest
long ago,” Reedwhisker explained. “They were the size of a
monster with tawny fur and manes around their heads.”
“Where was the old forest?” wondered Tawny aloud.
“The old forest was a place that was destroyed by twolegs,”
Mistystar sighed, lowering her head.”
“We lost a lot of cats to those shiny yellow monsters,”
Reedwhisker sighed.
“And Tigerstar was this evil dark forest cat who wanted to
kill all the cats in the real world. Especially Firestar,” Puddlepaw
explained. “He was the color of tree bark with eyes like frozen
honey and claws as long as my muzzle.”
“Wow, he sounds scary,” shuddered Tawny.
“Even worse than you can imagine,” replied Mistystar. “He
was the one that brought Bloodclan into the forest, and killed
himself in the process!”
“Wow,” replied Tawny. “He really is worse than you can
imagine!”
“Yes” sighed Mistystar “He really was.”
“Our old leader Leopardstar accidentally allied herself with
Tigerstar.”
“She thought it was best for her clan.” sighed Reedwhisker as
he needed the ground impatiently with tired paws.
“Well, you’d better be getting back to your twolegs before
they get worried about you.” mewed Mistystar.
“Thanks a lot for telling me stories about the clans!”
exclaimed Tawny
“You’re welcome” replied Mistystar
***
Tawny bounded away as Mistystar began to speak “Tawny
has a lot of spirit. She was very brave to come all the way to hear
tales of the old clans.”
“Yes” replied Reedwhisker.
“There has only been one other time a kittypet has wondered
in their own time onto clan territory,” Mistystar meowed, turning
around. “Firestar was a great leader from a foriegn past. Maybe
that will be Tawny’s destiny.”

Chapter 2

R ainstorm awoke and yawned. It was sunrise in his

new home. The other clans had worked hard to build peace
between Skyclan and Shadowclan so they could have territory.
Hawkwing was organizing patrols. “Get up you lazy rabbit!”
his sister Silverpounce yowled, leaping out of the den. Rainstorm
leaped after her as Hawkwing called his name. “Yes, Hawkwing?”
“Can you take Violetshine and Rabbitleap on a hunting
patrol?” Hawkwing asked and Rainstorm nodded. Violetshine
smiled at him as they padded out of the marshy dip. Violetshine
had dark grey tabby fur with green eyes. Rabbitleap sniffed the air
and motioned for his clanmates to lay low. Rainstorm saw a raven
in the branches of a nearby ash tree.
He got into a position so that when Rabbitleap scared the
raven out of the tree, he could grab it. Rabbitleap sprang up and
the raven cawed, flapping its wings wildly. It flew in Rainstorms’
direction and he leapt up to grab it with outstretched paws.
However, he was short a paw length and Violetshine pounced on
it so it wouldn’t get away. She killed it with a swift bite.
“Great catch!” purred Rainstorm. “Bury it and we’ll move on
to catch some more.” Violetshine kicked dirt over her catch and
bounded away. Just then a cracking noise echoed throughout the
forest. What could that be? Rainstorm thought to himself.
“What is that noise” shuddered Rabbitleap.
Just then the animal (or whatever it was) jumped from the
bushes. It had a pelt as red as a fox pelt. “What are you doing on
our territory, rogue,” hissed Violetshine.
“Looking for answers about my father,” the she-cat with the
red pelt hissed.
“Who is your father anyway?” asked Rainstorm.
“Redtail, Thunderclan’s old deputy before he was killed!”
“That is so tragic,” mocked Rabbitleap.
“I think she is telling the truth,” mewed Violetshine.
“I am,” she meowed.
“No, but really what are you doing on our territory?”
“I already told you. Searching for answers about my father!”
she spat.
“Get off our territory rogue!” Rabbitleap yowled. “You may
be hiding a whole band of rogues and waiting to attack us!”
“I don’t have a band of rogues waiting to attack you! For the
last time! I come in peace!” she yowled.
“No you don’t!” yowled Rabbitleap as he exploded at her
claws unsheathed. Scarlet unsheathed her claws and batted him
away. Rainstorm stepped between the two seething cats.
“Rabbitleap! She doesn’t smell of any clan cat! And I can’t smell
any other cats.”
“Maybe they are downwind!” hissed Rabbitleap. Violetshine
placed a paw down on his. “Even if there are other cats, fighting
isn’t the way of the warrior code.”
“Rogues don’t follow the warrior code,” muttered Rabbitleap.
Violetshine sighed. “Well, if you want to prove that there are
other rogues waiting to ambush us then walk around the area.
Sniff every corner for unfamiliar cat scent that isn’t this feather
brain.” The fox pelted she-cat winced at the insult.
“I am not a feather brain, you clan cat piece of junk!”
“I’ll take that as a compliment!” Violetshine smirked. Violetshine
stalked off as Rabbitleap cursed under his breath. Rainstorm
walked off to tell Leafstar about Rabbitleap’s quarrel with the she-
cat.
As Violetshine walked back to the camp she muttered,
“Stupid, Rabbitleap. He doesn’t even know what is good for him.
He couldn’t even find his ears if they weren't attached to his head.”
***
As Tawny bounded back to tell Smoky what had happened
with Puddlepaw, Reedwhisker, and Mistystar. When she got there
she saw Arrow and Willow play fighting. Then Smokey asked,
“How did it go?”
***
Scarlet bounded away from where she had met this idiotic,
stupid cat named Rabbitleap. She cursed under her breath and
then muttered, “Maybe I’ll have better luck in Thunderclan, after
all Redtail was their deputy.” She bounded away.
A mysterious cat meowed to himself saying, “Thunderclan,
Thunderclan so that is where she is going next”...

Chapter 3
A rrow faked a scream as Willow came tumbling down on top

of him. They were play fighting as Tawny walked in the big red
barn doors and Smokey asked her. “How did it go?”
She bursted out “I met this cat named Puddlepaw and he tried to

kill me, then I met this cat named Reedwhisker and apparently he
was Puddlepaw’s mentor.”
“Then I met this old cat names Mistystar and apparently she
was the leader of what you call Riverclan.”
“Then they told me I look like a Lionclan cat. Lastly they told
me about hungry ambitious Tigerstar.”
“Supposedly he was kicked out of this so called
Thunderclan, then he joined up with this alley clan named
Bloodclan. Then Scourge turned on him and ripped out his throat
out and lost all of his nine lives at once!”
“Wow,” replied Smokey. “That must’ve been hard on o’l
Tigerstar.”
“Maybe, but he was still the worst cat the old forest had seen
according to Mistystar.” She mewled.
Then Arrow said, “I don’t want to meet Tigerstar.” Arrow
shuddered.
“Don’t worry, you are safe here with me and Smokey.” then
Coriander turned her head to Tawny and Smokey and whispered,
“Maybe you should go outside and discuss this. It is scaring
Arrow.”
“Okay.” replied Tawny and Smoky at the same time. As they
padded off Arrow and Willow said, “ We aren't one day old now,
we aren’t not scared.”
“Okay dears. Next time I won’t tell them that.”
Arrow and Willow continued to play fight as Coriander
sighed, “What will I do with you two?”
“We want to live on the farm so we can take care of you and
Smokey when you are old cats.” they replied.
“Yes, yes thank you dears, but what will happen to you when
the twolegs take you away?”
“We’ll scare them off, mama,” they replied.
“Thank you.” she sighed. “But I don’t think that will work.”
“Why mother?” Willow questioned.
“The twolegs don’t like us having kits on their farm.”
“B-but can’t father protect us?”
“No children.” she continued sighing too herself and then
muttered, “I’ll find a way you’ll see, you’ll see…”
Arrow and Willow resumed play fighting as Coriander
walked out of the barn.
Then she heard Arrow scream, “F-fox, Coriander, Tawny,
Smoky, Fox!
A distant reply came through the farms’ fence as Coriander
rushed into the barn “We’re coming.” She heard Tawny and
Smokey yowl.
She burst into the barn as the fox turned on Willow, and
then she leapt at it.
The fox then turned on her and leapt at her. Just then a small
blue-gray she cat darted at the fox and drug her claws along the
foxes flank. It hissed, at the cat, in pain then darted away to the
thunderpath. Tawny heard a monsters’ paws become one with the
thunderpath. “Mistystar!” Tawny exclaimed.
“Hello, Tawny” Mistystar said tiredly. “Great Starclan that he-
kit is bleeding badly! I’ll go get my medicine cat Mothwing. She
can most treat most bad scratches like this one.”
Mistystar bounded away as Tawny called,”Wait!” Mistystar
screeched to a halt. “Yes?
Tawny asked “Can I go with you?”
“Ok.” she replied tiredly. Tawny bounded in the direction of
Riverclan territory.
***

Scarlet raced away from the so-called Skyclan territory as fast

as she possibly could and into Thunderclan’s territory. Just then a
great big tabby that looked and had the build of a lion leaped out at
her and hissed into her ear, “Get off our territory rouge!”
“I am looking for Graystripe of Thunderclan,” She replied
calmly.
The lion cat suddenly stopped. “Well then you’d better come
with me,” He meowed. “But one paw step out of line and your
crowfood.” Scarlet followed him through the undergrowth until
they reached the Thunderclan hollow.
Bramblestar jumped down from a ledge that had a narrow
cave behind it.
“Well, Lionblaze what do we have here? Perhaps a rogue
trespassing on our territory?” Bramblestar’s amber eyes pierced
Scarlet’s pelt like a thorn and she shivered as he flexed his muscles.
One wrong move Scarlet and you mouse scraps! Scarlet warned herself.
She looked away from Bramblestar and around the camp.
A collection of bramble was fortified on one wall. It smelled
of milk and newborn kits. A honeysuckle bush was in the far
corner of the hollow. Ferns and brambles lined the outside walls.
“She says she would like to speak to Graystripe.”
“Oh, really?” Bramblestar eyed Scarlet. She gave a nervous
nod.
“I need to find information about my dad,” Scarlet explained,
raising a forepaw to lick her ears. “And since Firestar was killed
then I was finding some other cats.”
“Okay,” Bramblestar hesitated for a second. “Lionheart, keep
an eye on her.” Scarlet felt Bramblestar’s hot breath on her ear.
“One pawstep out of line and I have a whole loyal clan to destroy
you with.” Scarlet nodded, her eyes wide as full moons, and turned
away. Scarlet could feel her heart pound in her chest.
“Alderheart come here please. We need to discuss
something,” Bramblestar meowed to an amber tom. He nodded,
not speaking because his mouth was full of fragrant herbs, and
padded towards the most shaded area of the camp
***
Bramblestar suppressed a joyful meow as Alderheart walked
into his cave. “This cat might be one of the cats from the
prophecy!
“A foxes fur shall question fate for answers of a long lost past.”
Bramblestar quoted.
***
Bramblestar walked out onto the ledge and yowled “Let all
cats old enough to catch their own prey join here beneath the
highledge for a clan meeting.” The clan looked strangely at their
leader and padded beneath the Highledge.
“I have decided to take Scarlet into Thunderclan.”
“What cat is this?!”
“What about the last time a clan took in a strange cat?! I
thought you would be done being a soft leader after Darktail?”
Thornclaw yowled.
Bramblestar’s pelt bristled. “Are you questioning your
leader?” He snarled. “I’m only letting her in if she would like.”
***

Scarlet checked all the dens for a very old cat. Then she saw
an old gray striped tabby heading for the den she was in. She
caught him in front of his den and asked him, “Is your name
Graystripe? And can I ask you some questions?”
“Yes and yes,” replied Graystripe.
“Did you know Redtail?”
“Yes again… I suppose. Oh and he is dead,” replied
Graystripe. “Killed by Tigerstar in his battle for power.”
“And where do you suppose I find this so-called Tigerstar?”
“No where. He was killed by Scourge in the battle with
Bloodclan.”
“Thank you Graystripe you’ve been a big help…” Scarlet felt
her heart sink to her paws. Redtail’s killer was dead. She couldn’t
even get her paws on his throat for killing her father! Her tail
trailed in her dust behind her as she padded out of the den.
“Scarlet!” Bramblestar yowled from the Highledge. His fur
was ruffled and his tail, fluffed up. Scarlet felt the blood drain from
her face.
“Y-yes?” Scarlet stuttered.
“Do you wish to join Thunderclan?” Bramblestar meowed.
“N-no,” Scarlet answered and started to pad towards the
entrance.
“Well, at least stay for a night,” Bramlestar urged jumping off
the Highledge. Scarlet nodded. Bramblestar turned to a silver
tabby she-cat and a tom the color of sand. “Ivypool and Lionblaze,
make sure Scarlet feels at home.”
Scarlet licked her ruffled fur. She swivelled her ears to the
entrance.
A patrol of five cats had entered. From their mouths dangled
prey. Scarlet felt her stomach growl. It had been a while since she’d
had good prey. In the early greenleaf, food was abundant. She
padded along side Thunderclan. Could they really be her kin?
...
Chapter 4

M istystar and Tawny raced across the marshy

Riverclan territory towards the Riverclan camp. Springy grass

flashed by Tawny as the entered the heart of Riverclan. Their cat
sent smelled strangely fishy. “Mothwing!” Mistystar yowled.
“Coming” came a faint reply. Then an orangish yellow tabby she-
cat trotted out of a den.
“What seems to be the problem Mistystar?” she asked.
A she-kit is bleeding badly over in the barn by the ”horseplace!
“Mangariold, Poppy Seeds, Tansy, Burdock root, Cobwebs.
Mangariold, Poppy Seeds, Poppy Seeds, Tansy, Burdock root
Cobwebs…” Mothwing chanted as she dashed into her den then
five seconds later she was back out with a bundle of herbs in her
mouth.
“Let us be on our way.” and with no more words she dashed
off towards the reed barrier and slid under it. Mistystar and
Tawny raced after her across Riverclans’ marshy territory back to
the barn where Arrow and Willow were
All three of them screeched to a hat in the barn door. Mothwing
marched in and mewled, “Where is he where is my patient?”
Coriander slowly nosed Arrow out from hiding. “Arrow, this is
Mothwing she is here to help you.” Coriander mewed. “Want
father.” he said weakly as he passed out again. “I’m here Arrow.”
Smokey mewed softly, I’m here.

Raven jumped from tree to tree chasing a squirrel. “Dumb
squirrel” he muttered as he lost it in the trees. Then he realized
that he was on a loose branch about 5 fox lengths from the
ground. “And dumb me too. In fact lets’ move that up to
