 DADDY’S SWEETHEART

CHARACTERS:

Sabrina – the daughter, 8 year-old girl

Samantha - the mother, a housewife

Jacob – the father, an architectural designer

Mrs. Iris Alvarez – the Boss of Jacob

Anne – the daughter of Iris

Setting:

An improvised home with chairs and table.

Scene #1

Sabrina just got home and she looked for her mom.

Sabrina: Ma? Where are you?

Samantha: (into phone) Hello Tina? Oh. I was about to call you

Sabrina: Ma? Can I talk to you?

Samantha: (holds her phone for a min.) Sabrina, I’m talking to your Auntie Tina on the phone right now.
Whatever it is, let’s talk about it later.

Sabrina: But ma-

Samantha: (into phone) Hello? Are you still there Tina? Oh yes, about your son. How is Nico?

Samantha didn’t mind Sabrina. She just continued talking on her phone.

Scene #2

Sabrina decided to walk to her room.

Sabrina: Mom and Dad are so busy right now. I know they are tired. What should I do? Hmm..

A minute of silence

Sabrina: Aha! I’ll make juice for Papa!

Scene #3

After preparing the Juice, Sabrina saw her Dad in his working table. She walks to her dad.

Sabrina: Hi Pa. I prepared an orange juice for you. *smiles*

Jacob: I don’t drink an orange juice. (He said without looking at Sabrina)

Sabrina: Papa, I want to talk to you about something important. Do you have a few minutes now?

Jacob: I’m busy designing a new building. I need to present this proposal tomorrow.

Sabrina: I just want to remind you again that tomorrow is the Family Day in our school.

Jacob: I can’t come. Just tell your Mom to go with you.

Sabrina: but Pa-, you already promise that you will come too!

Sabrina accidentally hit the glass of an orange juice. It drenched the works of her Dad.

Jacob: (Jacob was shock seeing his designs soaked. He stood and slammed his table.) LOOK WHAT YOU
HAVE DONE!

Samantha walks in.

Samantha: What happened here!?

Jacob: Look what you daughter did! She just messed up with my work!

Samantha: (Grabs the shoulder of Sabrina and faced her) Sabrina, your dad’s works is very important. Why
did you ruin it!?

Jacob: (points at her) Sabrina! You don’t seem to realize that there are many things my income needs to
cover!

Sabrina is now crying.

Sabrina: MOM! DAD! I AM SO TIRED IN THIS HOUSE! I CAN’T EVEN CALL IT A FAMILY
ANYMORE. BOTH OF YOU ARE ALWAYS BUSY. YOU NEVER ASKED ME HOW I FEEL.

Samantha: Sab ..

Sabrina: Ma, Pa .. I’m still here.. I want to feel your hugs. Do you still love me? (cries)

Jacob: We do love you Sabrina. I’m working because we need money to buy our needs.

Samantha: Please do understand that baby.

Sabrina: Pa, I know that. But I just want us to have a family bonding and Family day is going to be
memorable for us.

Samantha: Jacob, can you ask few more days before you submit your designs?
SCENE #4

Jacob grabbed his phone and called Mrs. Alvarez. He walked a few distance from his wife and daughter.

Jacob: (into phone) Good Evening Ma’am Alvarez.

Mrs. Alvarez: (into phone) Yes, Mr. Jacob, Is there a problem?

Jacob: (into phone) Ma’am .. Uhmm.. Can I ask an extension before I present you my designs?

Mrs. Alvarez: (into phone) I’ll try to consider that. Just give me a valid reason.

Jacob: (into phone) Hmm.. My daughter Sabrina wants us to join the Family Day tomorrow in her school.
She wants us to have a bonding, since we’re always busy and I forget to have time with her.

Mrs. Alvarez: (into phone) You’re doing an excellent job in my business. How can I say No?

Jacob: (into phone) Then, I can take a leave tomorrow?

Mrs. Alvarez: (into phone) Of course. Celebrating a family day is important. It is one of the best way to
remind us the importance of family in our lives.

Jacob: (into phone) Thank you Mrs. Iris!

Anne: (interrupts her mother) Mommy! Read me a story please.

Mrs. Alvarez: (to Anne) Yes baby. Wait lang ha’ 

Mrs. Alvarez: (into phone) I got to go now.  I still have to read a bed time story for my daughter.

Jacob: (into phone) Goodnight Ma’am

Mrs. Iris Alvarez hung up the phone.

Jacob: (Looked to her daughter) Sabrina, you know that I’ll do everything for you. Please try to understand
that. Even dad is always busy, you will always be the Daddy’s Sweetheart. I love you and you mother so
much.

Sabrina: I love you Pa. I love you Ma <3

Samantha: I love you too sweetie most of the time.

They all shared a hug full of love.

Family- The definition of family is a group of people who truly love and cares for each other. It is a
bondage that cannot be broken by any means. Parents should know how to prioritize their
children. Let them understand why you are working. FAMILY IS NOT JUST SOMETHING.
IT’S EVERYTHING.
