A typical Japanese home flat with the bold words from the text.

1 Read the text. How many rooms in total has

Kenzo’s flat got? ____

Kenzo is from Osaka, Japan. He is fourteen years

old.
‘Our flat is small – we’ve got
two bedrooms, a kitchen and a
living room. We’ve also got a
bathroom (of course!) but this
has only got a bath in it. The
toilet is in a separate room.
‘In our living room, we’ve got
straw mats called “tatami” on
the floor. Lots of people in Japan have got these
mats in their homes. We’ve got a table with short
legs in our living room where we eat. We haven’t
got any chairs in our living room. We sit on floor
cushions at the table.

‘In the kitchen, we’ve got a sink, a fridge and lots of

cupboards. We’ve got two gas rings to cook on and
an electric rice cooker next to that. We’ve also got
a microwave, but we haven’t got an oven. Not
many people have got ovens in Japan. 4 Label the picture with the words in the box.
