damages worth 6.2 billion.

DAMAGE: 1.9 billion (2009)

FORMED: September 24, 2009
AREA AFFECTED: Philippines, China, Vietnam, Laos, Cambodia, and Thailand

WHAT: Typhoon Ondoy

WHERE: Central Luzon, Metro Manila
WHEN: September 26, 2009
HOW: People died, loss of properties,

Cause and Effect of the disaster

 The cause why Metro Manila suffered the worst flood during Typhoon Ondoy, it is
because they threw their garbage anywhere. The effect is, it is because of the garbage
that blocked the canals, that’s why the water didn’t flowed properly and unfortunately
it caused the worst flood.

Analyze:

A.) Classify the disaster if it is natural, man-made, or combination. Why?

 Combination. It is combination because typhoons are natural and it is accompanied by
that man-made fault which is, we think the drainage system that is blocked by the waste
of the irresponsible people in the area so the water will not flow properly and it will
eventually cause flood.
B.) Identify the people who are most expose or most vulnerable in your specific topic.
Justify?
 We think the people that are most expose are the people who are at the coastal areas
and the people who live in the low lying areas because there is a high possibility that
they will experience disastrous flood. For us the most vulnerable is the people who are
poor because it is in the state of your status in life on how you can manage the impact
of the typhoon. And for those who experiencing poverty families they cannot cope up
easily because they are lack of money.
C.) What went wrong within the preparation, response, and rescue?
 Manila is one of the cities that experience the anger of the Typhoon Ondoy. The whole
city was already prepared that time but that is not enough to face the Typhoon Ondoy,
that’s why the city was experienced one of the most devastating typhoon that occurred
in the Philippines.
D.) What where the factors that aggravated the disaster damage?
 One of the factors that aggravated the disaster is that the people a well government not
prepared or they don’t expect worst that is why they neglect the possibilities. One major
thing also is that poor drainage and sanitation system of the area that been neglected
by the politicians in power. And because of the irresponsible and not disciplines people
who are throwing their garbage in their rivers or bodies of water that’s why the flow of
the water have been block and stay in the roads and of course in the residential areas.

E.) What could have been done by the government, the community or we by the people to
avert such disaster?
 We think the government should be much prepared to harm it’s citizen about the
incoming typhoon. Although the government can also set seminars regarding what will
you do in care of disasters like Typhoon. And as for us we can lessen the impact of a
disaster by simply be prepared like preparing first aid kit and food supply during
typhoons and one more thing we can prevent it by just being responsible and discipline,
because by just being responsible and discipline means that you won’t throw your waste
on the bodies of water that can lead to catastrophic damages and eventually lost of
lives.
F.) What should be done to avoid another disaster of the same nature to happen?
 Manila and another near areas who experience the catastrophic results learn their
lessons and lead them to create the Republic act 10121 the Disaster Readiness Risk
Reduction Management that ready the whole in country before a typhoon or a disaster
will occur.
