CHAPTER I

Introduction

A. Background

Speaking of the Qur'an, it is never endless. The Qur'an contains a variety

of stories from past period history to the future, including Islamic laws, the

secrets of the universe, and much more.

The Qur'an becomes one of the great miracles of the Prophet Muhammad

SAW, because the decline of the Qur'an through his mediator, the Qur'an has

a very important role for the sustainability of mankind in the world. However,

all the human problems of the world can be largely found in the Qur'an. By

him then the Qur'an is believed to be the word of Allah, the first source of

Islamic law before Hadiths and a source of teachings for the religion of Islam.

The obligation of man to conduct, read, study, internalize, and practice the

teachings of the Koran as a whole, and to make them to the Quran (Q.S. Al-

'ashr: 1-3). If we really have faith in Allah SWT or confess Muslims. Reading

it is rewarding, even the word prophet Saw one letter contains 10 reward,

especially if it is practice.

Among the scholars there is agreement that the main source of doctrine is

the Qur'an and Sunnah. As for reasoning or mindfulness as a means to

understand the Qur'an and the Sunnah. This provision is in accordance with

the Islamic religion itself as a revelation of the ALMIGHTY God who was

committed by the prophet Muhammad SAW. In the Qur'an (QS an Nisa:

1
156) We are encouraged to obey God and His Spirit, and Ulil Amri (leader).

Obedience to Allah and His Spirit is a consequence of obedience to his terms

contained in the Qur'an, and the provisions of the Prophet Muhammad SAW

in his Face.

CHAPTER II

Research methods Foundations of theory and Discussion

A. Research methods

The research method used by the author is to search for data or

information gathered from a variety of sources among others books and test

result

B. Foundations of theory

Hadisth of Rasulullah SAW, namely:

"I leave you with two things, and you shall not be perverted while sticking to

the two, namely Kitabullah (Al-Qur'an and his Sunnah)".

1. The Qur'anic Sense

Meaning Isim MAF ' ul the Maqru ' meaning that is read. Furthermore,

the Qur'an according to the term is according to Hasbi Ash-Shiddieqy

(1974:15-16) The word Qur'an is a mashdar which is interpreted with

Kallamullah derived from Muhammad Saw that can not be matched by

anyone.

According to Moenawar Chalil (1969:174) The Qur'an is the word of

Allah that is revealed to the Muhammad Saw in Arabic to be considered and

taken by the teaching of the human being (transferred) to us with the

newspaper Mutawatir Written in Mushhaf begins with the letter al-Fatihah

and is terminated with the letter al-Nas.

3
According to Al-Zarqani (1943; 13) The Qur'an is a mu'jizat that is

derived from the Prophet Muhammad Saw written in Mushhaf, transferred

Mutawatir and worth of worship for those who read it. Furthermore, Al-

Zarqani describes several components in the definition.

The Qur'an is Kalamullah or the word of God is not the greeting of the

prophet or other human. There is no word for the Prophet's speech in the

Qur'an. At the time the Qur'an was revealed, the Prophet forbade his

companions to memorize or record the hadith let alone collect it, he only

had to memorize and write the Qur'an. It is solely to maintain the purity of

the word of God. Thus, there is no evidence at all orientalist views that say

the Qur'an as a prophet's essay.

Handed down to the Prophet Muhammad Saw, the year 611, the last

apostle, the concluding of all revelation that God revealed to the face of the

earth, as the word of Allah Swt in Q.S. 33:40) whose translation is as

follows;

Muhammad is not the father of a man among you, but he is the prophet

and the covering of the prophets. And Allah knows all things (Depag, R.I.

1984:674).

Handed down through the intermediary angel Gabriel gradually, for 22

years 2 months 22 days to the Prophet Muhammad Saw. Revelation Al-

Qur'an gradually has a real wisdom and a deep secret that is only known by

people who are good. Among the wisdom is the following

4
a) confirming the heart of the Prophet Muhammad Saw in the face of the

miscations of the People

b) Alleviate the Prophet in receiving revelation

c) Facilitate the memorization of the Qur'an and give understanding to the

Muslims

d) Tadarruj (step by step) in establishing Islamic law

e) In line with the story that happened and reminded of that incident

f) Instructions on the origin (source) Qur'an that the Qur'an is derived from

the most prudent substance is praised

Collected in one Mushhaf memorized by the companions then collected in

a mushhaf consisting of 30 juz 114 Letter 6236 Paragraph

Presented to Muslims in a mutawatir (popular) and chain DRI generation

to generations in the state of wakefulness and preserved both letters and

Kalimat-kalimatnya, so that the authenticity of the Qur'an remains assured

Worth the worship for his readers and listeners. This means reading and

listening to Al-Qur'ann is an activity that produces rewards despite the

ununderstood meaning and significance

Its contents begin with the Surah Al-Fatiha and End with An An-Nas

letter. This is to say that the arrangement of the verses of the Qur'an is fixed

since the revelation until now which has been almost fifteen centuries and

5
the order of his letters corresponds to the Mushhaf written during the time of

Caliph Usman bin Affan (Mushhaf Uthman

To define the Qur'an in full (comprehensive) should pay attention to these

seven components. Based on some of the opinions and definitions described

above, it is understandable that the Qur'an is the word of Allah Almighty

who diturunan to the Prophet Muhammad Saw in Arabic removed and

written mutawatir (popular) that can not be is matched by the person who

opposed him and is worth the Ibdah for the reading.

2. Qur'anic content

The Qur'anic verses-the beginning of acceptance of the Prophet

Muhmmaad Saw, is the Liam Tang verse found in Sura Al-Alaq, when he

was Berkhalwat in Hira Cave, a cave located in the mountains around the

city of Mecca on the 17th Ramadan (6 aAgusutus 610) Aged 40 years.

The Qur'an consists of 114 letters, 6236 verses, 74437 sentences, and

325345 letters, containing points of doctrine on various issues of life and

human life. As the word Allah Swt says in Q.S. 6:38 which is the following

translation

And there is no one that we have to do (leave) in the Qur'an (Al-Qur'an)

Anything (Depag. R.I. 1984:192)

Verse above can be understood that the Qur'an contains the doctrine of

human life. That is, the Qur'an contains the basic principles that govern

human life in order to achieve happiness in the world and in the hereafter.

6
The outlines of the Qur'anic content are the following

a) The principles of conviction or faith that have spawned theology or

Science of Kallam

b) The fundamentals of the rules or laws that give birth to the science of

law, sharia or fiqh sciences

c) The fundamentals of devotion to God (worship)

d) The fundamentals of the conduct (moral) rules

e) Instructions on the mark of nature indicating the existence of God. Here

can be born science knowledge

f) Instructions on the relationship of rich and poor Golonga

g) The history of the Prophets and past people (Toto, 1997:47)

Only a small portion of the Qur'anic verses contain the law pertaining to

the Mukhallaf and the form of claim, the choice of doing and the provisions

stipulated. The laws govern human life, both in relation to God Swt and in

relation to human and natural surroundings.

The laws contained in the Qur'an are broadly categorized in the following 3

groups

1) The laws governing human relations with Allah Swt. Concerning

anything to be believed and to be avoided in respect of its beliefs, such as

the inexing obligation of God and the prohibitions of them. The law

concerning this belief is called the law of I'tiqadiah examined in the

sciences Tauhid or Ushuluddin

7
2) laws governing human relations regarding the qualities of both the must-

have and the bad qualities to be moved to called the Khuluqiah Law

which was later developed in the moral sciences

3) Laws relating to the act of human horns and the conduct of birth in the

relationship with Allah SWT, and relations with fellow man. This law is

called the law of Amaliyah which is developed in Sharia science.

The law of the Sutiana is divided into 2 lines as follows:

The law governing human behavior and outward deeds in his relationship

with Allah Swt, such as prayer; Fasting Zakat and Hajj. This law is called

the law of Worship in a special sense

The laws that govern the behavior and outward deeds of man in his

relationship with human or natural surroundings; such as buying and selling,

marriage, murder and more. These laws are called the law of Mu'amalah in a

general sense

The first legal form is called worship in a special sense, whereas the

second law is called Mu'amalah in the general sense, because it includes all

forms of human Association in the Life of society.

In terms of the preaching in the relationship of human beings, the form of

the law is there are several kinds of the following

1) The law governing the relationship between human beings concerning his

needs would be a Hart for his life. This legal form is called the law of

8
Mu'amalat in a special sense. Like Buying and selling, tenancy,

borrowing and other loans

2) The law governing the relationship between human beings relating to his

needs will be the legitimately channeling of the lust and associated with

it. This legal form is called the law of Hypocrat. Like Marriage, divorce,

reference and nursing over a born child

3) The law governing the relationship between the human regret relating to

the transfer of the property that is due to the death of the land. This legal

form is called the Mawarits Law and the law

4) The law governing the relationship of human beings with other human

beings relating to the prevention of the crime of property, or the

wickedness of the distribution of the lust or crimes and sanctions for its

breach. This legal form is called Jinayah or criminal law. Such as theft,

murder, adultery and others.

5) laws governing the relationship of human beings relating to settlement

efforts due to crimes in court. This form of law is also called the law of

Murafa't or the law of fasts also called Baracara Law in the judiciary. For

example, testimony, lawsuit and proof of judgment

6) The law governing the relationship between humans and other human

beings relating to societal and state life is called the law of Dusturiyah.

His name is about Ulil Amri, Caliph, Baitul Mal, also called state law.

9
7) The law governing man's relationship with his neighbor in a country with

other human beings, in a state of peace and state of war. This legal form

is called the inter-state law or the law of Dauliyah, also known as

international law. Examples of prisoners, extradition, treaties, spoils of

war and others.

Such are the forms of the law contained in the Qur'an. It is thus clear that the

Qur'an contains the legal bases of all the emerging legal forms of the world.

C. Discussion

1. Role and function of the Qur'an

Here are some functions of the Qur'an and its role in the content of the

doctrine

A. Al-Qur'an as Kalamullah

Kalam (the word) of the ALMIGHTY God revealed to the Prophet

Muhammad SAW through the angel Gabriel with pronunciation and

meaning. The Qur'an as the Book of God occupies the position of first

and foremost source of all Islamic teachings and serves as a guide or

guideline for mankind in achieving the happiness of life in the world and

the hereafter.

As Kalamullah, the Qur'an in its original form is in the parent of

Al-Kitab (Lauh Mahfuzh) in God's protection. Then it was handed down

to the prophet in the language of his people (Arabic).

10
The revelation of Allah revealed to his prophets is a science

devoted to them. A collection of revelations derived to the Prophet

Muhammad SAW is called the Qur'an, which is the bearer of mercy for

the universe and the instruction for man in his life and life.

Revelation descends in various ways such as; The angel Gabriel

was direct or human-like, in the form of sound or rumbling, or bells.

B. Al-Qur'an as a source of Islamic law

The source of Islamic law is four; Al Quran, Hadist, Ijma and

Qiyas. Qur'an is the word of Allah, and Hadith is the words of the

Prophet Muhammad. And Ijmaa obtained from the thought of the scholars

of Mujtahid (who stated), while referring to the Qur'an and As-Sunnah.

Meanwhile, Qiyas, according to the term of the scholars, are: likening a

case that there is no law with a case that exists in the law, because the

second equation is in its legal illat.

The contents of Al Quran covers all things, beginning of faith or

creed to natural phenomena. The Qur'an teaches men to be scientific or

science-based (Q.S. Al-Isro ': 36), encouraging people to do research to

reveal natural veil (Q.S. Yunus: 101), Conquer the outer space (Q.S. Ar-

Rahman: 33), preaching scientific predictions about the uterus Mother

(Q.S. Az-Zumar: 6), heavy force or gravity (Q.S. Ar-Rahman: 7), the

expansion of the universe (Q.S. Adz-Dzariyat: 47, Q. S Al-Anbiya: 104,

Q. S Yasin: 38), about the vacuum in outer space (Q.S. Al-An'am: 125),

11
about geology, rotation motion, and planetary revolution Earth (Q.S. An-

Naml: 88) and many more.

C. The Qur'an as a miracle

In arabmiracle language comes from the word ' ajz which means

weak, the opposite of Qudrah (power) while I'jaz means to prove

weakness. Mu'jizis something that weakens or makes others weak,

helpless. Each miraculous usually descends to give a challenge to the

situation of the day. When at the time of the Prophet Moses the sorcerers

were very powerful and they reached its peak in witchcraft, the Prophet

Moses came with a miracle that was able to paralyze the deception of the

sorcerers. Rasulullah SAW. was present at a time when Arabic literature

reached the height of its height. He came up with the Quran which has a

high level of language that was able to paralyze all the poets of the time.

In addition to the beauty of the language style, there are other very

clear instructions that show that the Qur'an comes from Allah Swt. With

all its miracles. Verses related to Science for example, can convince

everyone who wants to think that the Quran is the word of Allah Swt., it

is unlikely that the creation of human beings let alone Prophet

Muhammad saw. The Ummi (QS 7:158) who lived in the early sixth

century AD (571-632 AD). Among these verses are the example: QS

39:6; QS 6:125; QS 23:12, 13,14; QS 51:49; QS 41:11-41; QS 21:30-33;

QS 51:7.49, etc.

12
There are also verses relating to the history of power in Egypt, the

state of Saba. "Tsamud, ' Aad, Prophet Adam, Prophet Joseph, Prophet

Dawood, Prophet Sulaiman, prophet of Moses, and so on. These verses

can give us confidence that the Qur'an is a revelation of God not a human

creation. The verses that relate to the specific predictions that are then

evidenced by the history of the Romans, Christian Berpecah-belahnya,

etc. also become evidence to us that the Qur'an is a revelation of Allah

Swt. Delivered through his oral messengers.

D. Al Quran as Life guideline

As a guideline for life, the Qur'an also presents the principles and

the general principle of the arrangement of life in the relationship

between man and God and other beings. In it there are rules such as:

worship directly to Allah SWT, family, community, trade, debt-

receivables, inheritance, education and teaching, criminal, and other

aspects of life by Allah SWT. Guaranteed Applicable and can be

appropriate at any place and at all times.

Every Muslim is commanded to do all that value in his or her life.

The attitude of partial choosing and rejecting some of the values is

regarded by the Qur'an as a form of transgression and sin. To implement

his worship, he was judged as a sacred struggle, and was thus judged to

be martyred, to migrate as he judged high devotion, and would not

perform it as a wrongdoing, Fasiq, and infidels.

13
E. Al-Quran as Corrector

As Corrector, the Qur'an reveals many of the issues discussed by

previous scriptures, a kind of Torah and a gospel that is judged to be no

longer in accordance with the doctrine that has been derived by Allah

SWT. Such inconsistency Concerning the history of certain people, the

laws, the principles of godliness, and so on.

There are several examples of Koreksian expressed by the Quran

against the previous books, among others:

a) about the teachings of the Trinity (QS 5:73)

b) About Prophet Isa (QS 3:49,59; QS 5:72,76)

c) On the occasion of the crucifixion of Prophet Isa (4:157-158)

d) about the Prophet Luth (QS 29:28-30; QS 7:80-84)

e) about the Prophet Aaron (QS 20:90-94)

f) about the Prophet Sulaiman (QS 2:102; QS 27:15-44) and so on.

14
2. Understanding the Qur'an

In an effort to explore and understand the intent of the verses of the

Qur'an, there are two terms, namely Tafseer and Takwil. Imam al-Alusi

argued that according to the interpretation is a sense of the meaning of the

Qur'an that is Zahir (real), while the Takwil is the explanation of the

scholars of verses that mean implied, as well as the secrets of the Godhead

contained in the verses of the Qur'an. It can also be understood that Takwil

have some profound meaning, which is the implied notions in the form of

the verses of the Qur'an, which require contemplation and thought and is the

means of opening the veil. When you find a verse that has the possibility of

some understanding, the mufastators determine a stronger, clearer and

plainly understanding. However, it is uncertain, because if the meaning or

meaning is ensured it means that the warn has mastered the Qur'an, while it

is not justified as explained in Al Qur; an (Q. S Ali Imran: 7).

Broadly, the term between the interpretation and the agreement is not a

fundamental difference, both of which have a passion for digging, reviewing

and understanding the intent of the Qur'anic verses to serve as guidelines

and references to Muslims when Experience a variety of issues in life in the

world.

15
In an effort to explain the intent of the verses of the Qur'an, the object

which is used as a study in interpreting the Qur'an is Kalam Allah, so in this

context it is not necessary to be doubted and debated about its glory. Its

contents include the true Aqidah-Aqidah, the laws of Syara ' and others. The

end goal is to be able to obtain a very strong cord and not to break and will

have happiness either in the world or in the hereafter. Therefore, the science

of interpretation is the subject of all religious sciences, because it is taken

from the Qur'an, so it is a science that is needed by humans.

The methodology of interpretation is the science of the method of

interpreting the Qur'an and the scientific discussion on the interpretation

methods of the Qur'an, discussions relating to the method of applying

methods to the verses of the Qur'an are called methodic, while the way

Presenting or formulate the interpretation is called technique or

interpretation art. The interpretation method of the Qur'an is broadly divided

into four methods, but it depends on a particular point of view:

1) The interpretation method is reviewed from the source of its interpret.

2) Interpretation method is reviewed from the explanation.

3) Motede interpretation is reviewed from the freedom of explanation.

4) Interpretation method is reviewed from the target aspect and systematics

of the verses interpreted.

These very many Qur'anic verses can answer all the problems that occur in

the community. But the impression that exists at this time as if the Qur'anic

16
verses still contain mystery, so that it is not able to answer all the problems

that exist. This erroneous impression and understanding is the result of his

"poor" way, methods and approaches in understanding and interpreting the

verses of the Qur'an. The Qur'anic interpretation methodology is one way to

study, understand and further uncover the intent and content of the Qur'anic

verses. The method of interpretation is very diverse model, shape and

approach.

A very important thing for us to know and understand the various methods

of interpretation of the Qur'an verses that exist with a variety of approaches,

if this we have known, the verses of the Qur'an is increasingly alive and able

to answer all Community's growing issues so rapidly. This further confirms

that the Qur'an is the revelation of God being the reference and main source

of the teachings of all Muslims.

3. Quranic Sciences

A. Ulumul Qur'an

Etymologically, the word Ulumul Qur'an comes from the Arabic

language consisting of two words, namely "Ulum" and "Qur'an". The

word ulum is a form of JAMA ' from the word "science" which means

science. The word ulum which is held in the word Qur'an has given the

understanding that this science is a collection of some sciences related to

the Qur'an, both in terms of the Qur'an as well as understanding of the

instructions contained therein.

17
Ulumul Qur'an According to Assuyuthi in the book Itmamu al-

Dirayah:

"The science that discusses the state of the Qur'an in terms of the

sequence, its Isnaad, the Adabnya Makna-maknanya, both related to

Lafadz-lafadznya and related to its laws, and so on".

Ulumul Qur'an is a science that has a wide scope of discussion.

Ulumul Qur'an covers all the sciences that there are related to the Qur'an,

both in the form of religious sciences, such as the Science of Tafsir and

Arabic language. Besides, there are many other sciences included.

Broadly, the science of the Qur'an is divided into two subjects:

1) The science that relates to the sheer history, such as the science

that discusses the various Qira'at, places down verses of the Qur'an, time-

downs and Sebab-sebabnya.

2) Knowledge related to the Dirayah, i.e. the knowledge obtained

by a deep study path such as Understanding Ghorib (foreign) Lafadz and

knowing the meaning of verses related to the law.

The growth and development of Ulumul Qur'an is transformed into

a discipline through the process gradually and according to the needs and

opportunities to fix the Qur'an in terms of its sense and facet of religion.

18
B. Tafseer Qur'an

Tafsir Al Qur'an is a science to understand and interpret the Qur'an

and its contents. Functioning as a mubayyin, explaining the meaning and

content of the Qur'an, especially concerning the verses that are not

understood and cryptic meaning. Tafseer is derived from al-Fusru

meaning al-Ibanah wa al-Kasyf (explain and unveil something).

According to the terminology, such as end Quote by al-Hafizh As-

Suyuthi of Al-Imam Az-Zarkasyi is the science to understand the book of

Allah SWT derived to the Prophet Muhammad SAW, explained Makna-

maknanya, concluded wisdom and its laws.

C. Development of Tafsir

The science of Qur'anic interpretation continues to develop

according to the demands of the times. This development is a must for

the Qur'an to be meaningful to Muslims. In recent developments began to

be adopted new methods to fulfill these objectives. By taking several

methods in the philosophy that is used to read the text of the Qur'an then

it produces new ways to interpret the Qur'an. Among these methods are

quite popular among others is the interpretation method of hermeneutics

and Semiotika Tafseer method.

D. Science related to the science of Tafsir

a) Lughat (phythology), which is the science to know every

meaning of the word Qur'an. Mujahid Rah. A., said, "Whoever believes

19
in Allah and the Hereafter, he is not worthy to comment on the verses of

the Qur'an without knowing the science of Lughat. Little knowledge of

the science of Lughat is not enough because sometimes one word

contains various meanings. So just knowing one or two meanings is not

enough. It can happen, which means that the word is a different meaning.

b) Nahwu (grammar). Very important to know the science of

NAHWU, because the slightest i'rab (final reading of words) changed

will change the meaning of the word. While the knowledge of I'rab only
