Plot Order

1. On the night before Valentine’s Day, Joel enters his apartment and is questioned by his
neighbor Frank what his plans are with Clementine which seems to pain Joel because the
audience is led to believe that Joel and Clementine have broken up.
2. When Joel gets back inside his apartment, he takes a pill and begins to hear odd bell-like
noises.
3. From outside of his apartment we hear Stan scold Patrick as they look into Joel’s apartment.
4. Back inside the apartment Joel turns off all of the lights and begins collapsing under the
influence of the pill.
5. Back outside in the van, Stan and Patrick notice that all the lights have been turned off and
gather their gear as they prepare to head inside the apartment.
6. A few moments later inside the apartment lobby, Stan scolds Patrick again for making too
much noise as he holds the door open for him.
7. A few moments after that, Stan and Patrick are carrying all of their gear down the hallway
and enter Joel’s apartment to find Joel unconscious on the ground.
8. Joel wakes up in his bed to relive the exact moment where he walked into his apartment on
Valentine’s Day eve and has the exact same run-in with his neighbor Frank again, hearing
their whole interaction in a distorted fashion.
9. Three days before Valentine’s Day, Joel is in Rob and Carrie’s house recounting a story in
which he called Clementine to resolve an issue between them, presumably them breaking up,
but reveals that Clementine has changed her number.
10. Earlier in the day, Joel is in Antic Attic picking out a piece of jewelry for Clementine as an
early Valentine’s Day gift to resolve their breakup.
11. Later that night, back in Rob and Carrie’s house, Joel says that once he delivered the early
valentine to Clementine at work, she was there with another guy and she looked as though
she didn’t even recognize him.
12. Earlier in the day, after Joel goes to Antic Attic, he goes to Clementine’s work to deliver his
early valentine, but she doesn’t seem to recognize him, and he sees her kissing another guy
who is out of his line of sight.
13. Joel is back in Rob and Carrie’s house later that night moping over why Clementine would
do such a thing to him while Rob and Carrie get into a marital argument; Rob gives Joel a
letter that was delivered to him and Carrie earlier that day, and the letter states that
Clementine has had Joel erased from her memory, right before Clementine’s name itself
dissolves from the surface of the letter.
14. The next day, Joel walks to the Lacuna office and arranges an appointment with the
receptionist Mary to see Dr. Mierzwiak.
15. Mary walks Joel through Lacuna’s hallway to his see Dr. Mierzwiak but is playfully surprised
by Stan, her presumed boyfriend, who is unaware of Joel’s presence and is scolded by Mary
after he has scared her.
16. Inside his office, Dr. Mierzwiak tells Joel that he should not have seen the letter and that he
has been erased from Clementine’s memory by a procedure that Lacuna provides.
17. Later that day, back at Rob and Carrie’s house, Joel recounts what Dr. Mierzwiak told him to
Carrie while Rob makes a birdhouse.
18. That night, Joel is alone crying in his car and slamming the steering wheel in frustration of
Clementine erasing him from her memory.
Story Order

1. Three days before Valentine’s Day, Joel goes to Antic Attic to buy his girlfriend Clementine
a piece of jewelry as an early valentine to resolve their breakup.
2. Joel then goes to Clementine’s work to give her the present, only to find that she is doesn’t
seem to recognize him and is already there with another guy whom she kisses repeatedly.
3. Later that night, Joel is at Rob and Carrie’s house recounting what has happened that day
before Rob and Carrie get into a vicious marital spat; Rob gives Joel a letter they received
earlier that day from Lacuna Inc. which states that Joel has been removed from Clementine’s
memory.
4. The next day, Joel walks to the Lacuna office and arranges to meet with Dr. Mierzwiak
through his receptionist, Mary.
5. As Mary and Joel walk through the hallway to get to Dr. Mierzwiak’s office, Stan, Mary’s
boyfriend, playfully scares her and Mary scolds him for doing so.
6. Inside Dr. Mierzwiak’s office, Mierzwiak tells Joel that he shouldn’t have seen the letter and
that he conducted the procedure to have him removed from Clementine’s memory.
7. Later that day, back at Rob and Carrie’s house, Joel recounts what Dr. Mierzwiak told him to
Carrie while Rob makes a birdhouse.
